Thoughts on Amadeus so far (2 eps in).
Great, it's 5 hours long, that means more music!
It's 5 hours long... let's shove in some unnecessary scenes and underwhelming dialogue to pad it out! No-one will remember how unsurpassable the film/original play was anyway and we've got a massive budget!

How have I never known this bliss until now? Thank you @dirkmaggs.bsky.social
Lissa's Literary Advent calendar is a highlight of Christmas for me in much the same way as Fanny Cradock's Festive Cookery *wasn't*.
(My mother made a lot of Fanny's Yuletide recipes and they were uniformly horrible)
Well, I seem to be back on Blue Sky, so straight into a catch up of my #LIteraryAdventCalendar2025.
Day 1, and it's one of my all-time favourites: journalist Lynn Barber attempts to interview Margaret, Duchess of Argyll, (ultra posh, with a scandalous past) about her book on dinner parties.

instead of reposting that horrible screenshot of that horrible man's post, consider sharing the incredible stories about what sweet, thoughtful man Rob Reiner was and flooding the feed with them
When Rob Reiner was on his all-time epic run at the start of his career, he had an opportunity to read a script that was looking for a production partner, and he lost his mind for it. He decided Castle Rock had to have it, no matter what.

and an antisemite will say "well how come I hear about Jews so much in influential fields eh, eh?"

my friend, let me tell you about how *extremely motivating* it is to know that in living memory everyone like you was killed unless you could persuade another country that you were worth letting in
yeah. when asked, the most common view around the world is that about 1-2% of people in the world are Jewish ie 70-140 million people.

it's 0.19%

there are 12 million of us. world Jewish population has never returned to the pre-Holocaust number of 18m

Thank you 🙏
However else you label the Bondi Beach shootings — hate crime, terror attack — they were the murder of innocent people for being Jews, in a place very far from Israel and Gaza.

Fear of copycat monsters will also inhibit Chanukah celebrations all over the world now.

I'm on my way to a Chanukah event. It should be a celebration but instead our community is once again mourning.

I will be thinking of everyone in Australia and those around the world in the Jewish Community who know this fear and loss.

We stand with you.

Oh that's right, none of us did that, my mistake

my great-grandparents arrived in the UK in the 1890s with nothing.
they sold pickles from the front room window, took in laundry, worked as tailors.
their children were nurses, teachers, salesmen.
their grandchildren were professors, designers, opticians, doctors, magistrates, entrepreneurs.
This is so disgusting.

Nigel Farage says he won't release the names of his former school friends who have written to him to say he definitely wasn't a massive racist and anti-semite, because journalists will: "chase after them and make their life a misery"

I fucking don't. Unbelievably callous.

What on earth was the reason for the 3 line whip to vote this down? The Labour party supported the swift brick amendment when it was tabled on Conservative government legislation in 2023. Why has it gone from supporting swift bricks in opposition to imposing a 3 line whip to block them in government
In 2023, the Labour party supported mandating swift bricks, whipping FOR the swifts brick amendment. 2 years later, the same Ministers in charge of Housing put a 3 line whip (the most extreme block) AGAINST swift bricks. Listen to the strength of support in this powerful speech.

When I was in 6th form at my conmprehensive back in the distant day, our amazing English lit teacher arranged with the RSC for Ben Kingsley and Bob Peck (who I adored) to come and perform Act 3 sc.3 of Othello. It was unforgettable and cemented my desire to become an actor. ❤️
This is a terrific idea - may it flourish like a Shakespearean fanfare.
(I first trained as a drama teacher and am horrified at how successive U.K. governments have strangled our schools’ arts curriculum.)
