Well this is kind of ironic, I guess?

Also, remember when Wired mattered?

Watching "Band of Brothers" about 25 years late. Aside from the horrors of war, it's fun to see so many "before they were famous" actors. But what was Jimmy Fallon doing in there? He was already a well known goofball on SNL by 2001, so that was just some distracting casting.

So, what does this emoji mean? 🫡

I think there is something funky happening with my mac's emoji set: as when I searched it in Google the replies were about the "salute" emoji. Is that what you see here? Here are two screenshots of what I see on two pages, same Firefox browser, same Mac.

Hey @cyclingpedestrian.cityof.toronto.ca the Bloor bike lane west of Old Mill Trail has a very dangerous slick of black ice. In general the lane is poorly cleared in this area, but this is the worst spot. Thanks! #biketo #winterbike

Towards the end of my westbound ride, near Bickford Park, I gave props to some female crew members installing some of the missing bollards. I will have to go for a re-inspection ride after this snow melts, to see the final(ish) configuration.

One odd piece is this bumpout west of Spadina in front of Piano Piano. It used to exist to go around parked cars. But instead of moving the bike lane to the curb, they built this concrete pad and kept the bumpout. And no curb separation. Maybe a patio space or loading zone? I foresee problems here.

The lanes are mostly at street-grade, but TTC bus stops have raised sidewalk-level portions of the bike lane for loading/unloading. Cyclists & passengers will need to be aware to avoid conflict here. Signage seems minimal so far, so hopefully can be improved.

Curb-protected portions have cuts for drainage, not cyclist egress. You *can* try to use them for the latter, but they are narrow & 90º so you'd have to stop or slow right down. Basically you need to stay in your lane & passing other riders is tough. Not a route for speedsters or throttle ebikers.

Parking has been moved left of the lanes but no curb separation from parked cars is used. Instead the city put flexposts at 6 m intervals (~ every 2 vehicles or so), but on my visit many were not in yet. In places without posts, parked cars edge into the lane and their passenger doors can hit us.

Your public service announcement that the Wikipedia page on Ontario's tolled Highway 407, which runs just 150km across Toronto's northern burbs, is 44 printer pages long. #goodreadin

With all due respect, I can't imagine many things I'd rather attend less.

Things you find on Twitter, a devoted DPRK apologist and pro-Palestine activist in Toronto, who runs around bolstering antisemites, while fawning over one of the most repressive authoritarian regimes ever. They also sell embroidery for Palestine. Only in 2025!

Just in case there was any doubt the extreme left and the far right have merged:

It's not your fault, but unfortunately the way this previews on your blog/site, hides the original quoted tweet and blows up the quoter's headshot making it seem like you're talking to him. Probably not much you can do on that though.

Why does the main CBC.ca website homepage, look like something a kid with a free SquareSpace account made in 20 minutes?

The Netherlands actually has a high number of cycling deaths each year. Obviously low relative risk with that many people cycling. But it makes me wonder if that number could be reduced by half if more people wore helmets? I don't know the answer, but it's worth thinking about.

Hey, we all love to hate on the trashy clickbait site that is BlogTO. But good lord, what were they on in the 2000s? This writing is just... something else. Florid does not began to describe this prose.

This bit in @torontostar.bsky.social story on Bill 212's anti-lawsuit provisions is confusing at best, but this part is probably the most relevant bit: basically none of it matters anyway, because Ontario's courts are nonfunctional.
November 28, 2024 at 8:31 PM
Reading these laws without the proper context is confusing for any non-lawyer, but that appears to refer to 103.1 (2) which is about power-assisted bicycles (which I guess are now just motor-assisted). So basically, e-bikers require helmets.

I seem unable to connect to your site, Justin. Is this just a matter of too many people flocking there? I also got a different security error before from my internet provider.
