First and foremost, biodiversity: Frogs; Snakes; Bees but the wild kinds; Birds but not a birder. Occasional politics, of the woke, pro-Rejoin kind. Si j'avais le choix, je serais à Toulouse. SW London. Crepuscular.

Balham, SW London: little beats the thrill of nesting swifts and you can have it too.

Cast your vote in our Annual General Meeting before midnight on 31 Oct: buff.ly/aczpS66

You can help shape the Trust now and for generations to come so that we remain a place for everyone, for ever.

Depends if it's pizza or pasta bolognese. Everything else can get lost.

Oh, how fabulous, Brigit. The grass snake didn't show up in the garden this year - it's OK, i had swifts and brown hairstreaks - but I've missed it nonetheless...

Almost certainly the best thing I was ever told about owls was when I met an owl handler at an owl sanctuary and he told me that the wild owls who lived near the sanctuary worried about the tame show owls there and sometimes stopped by to leave them shrews and mice as presents.
An owl handler I met (although not the one in my anecdote) with his beautiful owl.

Haha, that's one of my local parks! I was volunteering on the other one they did, the day before.

Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵

Great, will research pubs with rooms.. close to my wife's birthday too so brownie points possibly involved. The variable is the grumpy teenagers.

Might see if dates work next year, that sounds like a lot of fun. Hiking in mid Wales, what's not to like?

Love that the mayor turned up. I mean, can you get any more civic pride? Happy walking.

For many years I have been posting little observations online. What you may not know is that for many years, artists have been illustrating them - for no reason other than they wanted to respond. Below is a thread of some of these beautiful drawings because they should be seen 🧵

Just wanted to say thank you for raising the alarm generally on credit card scams. We nearly lost £1500 last night to a scammer who had got hold of my wife's credit card details, was pretending to be the bank and was trying to trick us into handing him the OTP for an online transaction.

Paid a first visit in a while to SW London's Beddington Farmlands. This 120+ hectare, nationally-important site for wildlife should be fully open to the public by now, if it weren't for foot-dragging by Valencia Waste Management. Maybe time for some national exposure? @patrickbarkham.bsky.social
