I do not want, or see any value, in an AI review of any paper I submit to a journal.

If you do this, I will withdraw my paper and submit elsewhere.

Or simply post as a preprint never to be reviewed. Fuck this enshittification of scholarship.

Oh FFS. Because what overburdened peer review systems really need is more noise between the reviewers & ACs. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Screenshot of AAAI automated review announcement reading:

1. Supplementary First-Stage Reviews: LLM-generated reviews will be included as one component of the
initial review stage, providing an additional perspective alongside traditional human expert evaluations.
2. Discussion Summary Assistance: LLMs will assist the Senior Program Committee (SPC) members by
summarizing reviewer discussions, helping to highlight key points of consensus and disagreement among
human reviewers.

New preprint 🌟 Psychology is core to cognitive science, and so it is vital we preserve it from harmful frames. @irisvanrooij.bsky.social & I use our psych and computer science expertise to analyse and craft:

But they were, all of them, deceived. For there were some worries if not

okay, malcolm gladwell says he was “cowed” into saying trans girls and women belong in girls’ and women’s sports. well i won’t be bullied or pressured into taking that position!

i took it based on the evidence. like for example:

Do Trans Women Belong In Sports?
The question of trans women in sports has little to do with the cultural practice of sport itself. Rather, it’s merely a convenient way of normalizing transphobia.

The psych job market may not be dead... but it is gravely injured 😬 So far it's looking like the Trump administration's attacks on higher ed/research are going to have more than 2x the impact on the job market as the covid-19 pandemic. #psychjobs #neurojobs #academicjobs
Bar plot showing the number of psychology jobs posted each year by area. There are major dips in 2020 due to covid, and in 2025 (now).

In an absolutely barbaric move, the Trump administration is officially cutting off specialized 988 suicide prevention support for LGBTQ+ youth. This is murder.

From NPR: "SAMHSA announced Tuesday it was ending these specialized services for LGBTQ+ youth on July 17."
Trump administration cuts specialized suicide prevention service for LGBTQ+ youth
The 988 Suicide and Crisis Prevention Lifeline included a service that provided specialized suicide prevention support by phone and text for LGBTQ+ kids. That's ending.

Walking across UNSW campus for a conference, I found myself thinking about how I love academia (for all its flaws) because of what it reflects about humanity. We all decided that it's worth creating and resourcing an entire cultural institution devoted to the acquisition and spread of knowledge.
