Nothing against people who fall into the first camp, but it’s disheartening how it feels like no one does anything for free anymore. Everyone is soliciting donations, plugging their shops, or straight-up trying to sell you something.

I’m a bit glad I’m not in the (fan)art community. Seems like everyone there is jonesing for commissions and trying to market themselves with portfolios et al.
The writing world is full of those wanting to be published, but at at least there’s the fanfic side for those purely in it for fun.

I’ve just finished watching Buccaneer (1980) which, no joke, felt like a one-season speedrun of #thebrothers1972 but with airplanes instead of lorries. It had the same major plot beats and the same character archetypes. And I loved it.

It's a cult of personality which is by nature collective but I would also say it is fueled and stemmed from an American individualism. One that asks what the collective can give them and cares nothing about what it gives others.
/3 Also, Trumpism is more or less collectivism for the benefit of a white male conservative affluent polity rather than other groups. It’s not like Trumpism is remotely individualistic in terms of thought, speech, or tolerance. So going with the “not gleefully bigoted” one is an easy choice.
