Without a constant stream of traffic, the nation’s high street came alive for one extraordinary day.

Footfall was up nearly 50% and passenger numbers at nearby Tube stations jumped by 25%. It shows the appetite for a traffic-free Oxford Street where businesses and Londoners can thrive.

I didn't forget there was a parking lot there, but I thought it was removed much earlier, like in the 1990s.

Went through some of my older digital photos recently and found these two. Wow, there was a parking lot right there that recently?! I forgot. And I also forgot that I took pictures of it myself.

This week's post covers our ride across the dunes to Den Haag and Scheveningen.

I've previously described Den Haag as the most car-centric city I've been to in the Netherlands, with big roads and patchy cycling infra, but it's still far better than any city in the UK.

The barrier to new ways of doing business isn’t a need for cars and trucks, but that people are forced into them by city design.

When you design infrastructure at the human-scale, you see people making human-scale choices that benefit everyone.
