There's a new BMX bike park under the veloway/freeway in docklands now. 4 tracks across 2 road separated areas (pedestrian lights crossing). Already seeing use from a kid on a balance bike.

Should be open now
December 14, 2025 at 12:25 AM
Weird kind of opening if you ask me. Fed trail extension is open, just not the party under the Westgate connecting to hall St
December 13, 2025 at 10:50 PM
Federation Trail extension including a new bridge over Williamstown Rd opens tomorrow. This completes the Federation trail through to Hyde st. From here it joins up with Bay Trail W. It will also join a new path under the West Gate Freeway, linking the Stony creek trail to Hall St in Spotswood.

Still confused about what's going to be open and what's not. I'm guessing nothing from the Veloway connecting to Hyde st given how things looked this evening. But hopefully everywhere else.
December 12, 2025 at 1:09 PM
Well that confirms it!
December 12, 2025 at 5:38 AM
As we understand it, this should include the rest of the shared user paths (ie fed trail and route to spotswood) being open too! Still waiting for confirmation.

BikeWest is advocating that the Victorian state gov and city of Maribyrnong commit to building WestLink. Maybe the Feds could pay for it (like Albo committed to back in 2016)!

Seems like someone might have found their own detour for the footscray rd SUP closure last night.
November 6, 2025 at 11:57 PM
Sigh.
October 28, 2025 at 8:44 AM
Melissa Horne has replied to BikeWest's questions about protected lanes on Macaulay Rd.
October 24, 2025 at 9:18 AM
We're calling on the state & federal governments to live up to Albo's 2019 promise to build safe bike lanes on Napier & Buckley Streets. These lanes would link the Veloway to central Footscray, the new hospital, Vic Uni & the Sunshine Path. Build the missing #westlink

Apparently it's nearly October, which in itself is quite shocking. But it also means that it's nearly "Biketober" Register at www.lovetoride.net/maribyrnong, log rides, possibly receive prizes and hope that by logging data, councils will be more willing to provide infrastructure.
September 29, 2025 at 8:48 AM
Looks like the east side Maribyrnong river trail and Port Phillip monument are finally open again.
September 15, 2025 at 4:08 AM
Nice day for a ride. Would be nicer still if we were all authorised
June 21, 2025 at 7:06 AM
Just saw my 90+ year old neighbour riding in the footpath on Barkly st. We need bike lanes safe enough that he'd choose to ride in them.
June 2, 2025 at 11:46 PM
Having just rode it now, I think the Maribyrnong River will cover some of the path north of Dynon too come high tide. The boardwalk bit is already under water.
May 27, 2025 at 3:03 AM
Bay trail West is finally reopened. There's now a safe route in and out of Altona again!
May 23, 2025 at 1:25 PM
It's obscene how little care road projects take towards the safety of people riding bikes. How is it ok to have this overhanging at head height.
May 19, 2025 at 12:39 AM
The Strategic corridors aren't designed bike lanes, but a plan of how the local networks should link to the wider network to allow commuting and longer trips. They suggest there should be safe cycling routes in the vicinity of Buckley st, Nicholson st and Hopkins st. We really need these routes.
May 18, 2025 at 9:37 AM
So $150k of the budget, is coming up with a "plan" for a North South route.
Probably could have saved that, by just building it on Summerhill Rd.
May 12, 2025 at 9:51 AM
Then a bit more detail further down.
May 12, 2025 at 9:47 AM
Apparently once you get into the PDF proper it's better
$10.5m for roads and $2.5m for footpaths/bicycle, that makes $1.675m for footpaths. Seems like the budget is actually following the recommendation of 20% for active transport.
May 12, 2025 at 9:39 AM
This apparently turns into $11.310m for Roads, Laneways and Footpaths, and $0.825m for for bike infrastructure.

It's a shame they group bicycling and footpaths in the prioritisation, but then group the footpaths with roads.
May 12, 2025 at 9:26 AM
The initial prioritisation public feedback, cycling and pedestrian infrastructure ranked 2nd most important, just after open space. Apparently this is similar to other times they've asked.
