Anyway, I love TRAIN DREAMS. Please see TRAIN DREAMS. And for the love of all that's holy (for example: TRAIN DREAMS), see it big.

I had an absolute blast speaking to michael sheen about TRON: LEGACY. garrett hedlund's costume burning him! daft punk being french as hell! sheen describing castor as being a little "fash-y" with all those cabaret-inspired high kicks! a good time. at @vulture.com:

Absolutely wonderful article: Wes Anderson's Impossible Dreams.

And a true example of the utter irreplaceable value of film criticism. Gorgeous read over at Criterion by Bilge Ebiri on Anderson's film catalog from the first 25 years of his career. www.criterion.com/current/post...
A wide shot of a movie set with a miniaturized practical set from THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU in the background. In the foreground, slightly off centred Wed Anderson sits behind a camera on a crane lift. He's slightly turned and looking over his shoulder, offset and out of the photo. He's dressed in muted browns with a light coloured scarf wrapped around his neck.

I’m letting myself reread Against the Day as a treat in advance of the new one and I cannot stress enough that this right here is the mud I want to live and be buried in, sorry in advance for how annoying I’m about to become

Third paragraph is weird, beautiful, allusive, funny. Pynchon heads we are so fucking back.
Loitering in the alleyway in back of Pasquale's Bella Palermo, Hicks can hear sounds of noodle-flexing sociabil-ity, smell spaghetti sauce and garlic frying and sfinciuni bagherese baking over an olive-branch fire, and it's making him hungry, though this close to payday his lunch menu is a thermos of coffee and a buttermilk cruller stashed in a pocket someplace.

Oh god, I’m so sorry. That’s a lot to process for anybody. Sorry for your loss and hope your mom is doing okay.

If you’re white, your accomplishments are your own and you can resent and criticize the country all you like, but if you’re black and successful you should be grateful to white people for allowing you in their presence. bsky.app/profile/jess...

Weaponized gratitude is a key tool in the abuser's toolkit. The goal is to convince the victim that they owe the abuser so much, they should feel guilty for wanting to complain.
Tweet from the VP:
Joy Reid has had such a good life in this country. It's been
overwhelmingly kind and gracious to her. She is far wealthier than most.
Yet she oozes with contempt.
My honest, non-trolling advice to Joy Reid is that you'd be a much
happier person if you showed a little gratitude

Bilge Ebiri asks Jim Jarmusch a question we've always wondered about when it comes to indie filmmakers: “How do you pay the bills?”

I'll say it again. Our horror at the Gaza genocide and at the atrocity in Manchester comes in both cases from the same, inherent part of our shared humanity. We need to assert that shared humanity in the face of both these evils as loudly as possible, and in as many practical ways as we can.

NEW: Home secretary Shabana Mahmood urges pro-Palestine protesters to consider not taking part in marches this weekend.

"Imagine if you lost a loved one to a terror attack in this country ... sometimes a little unity, a little solidarity, some love to other people is required"

No one, and I mean NO ONE, in Hollywood is talking about Tilly Norwood except over drinks for a chuckle. Actors are such an important part of the creative process - you want an actor who can surprise you every take, not one whose performance you dial up and down on a laptop. This is an ad campaign.

Wes Anderson “has located the great paradox of our era: that we are all forever out of step and out of touch with our rapidly changing times.”

Shane Black's PLAY DIRTY feels like something from an alternate universe where the ultraviolent American studio action movie got crazier and crazier until we wound up with something as insane as PLAY DIRTY.

“Venues are getting thinned out, although that’s still probably the best way for musicians to pay for their dinner. I don’t know what’s happened exactly, but it’s tough being someone who uses human expression or artistic expression as a kind of livelihood.” Amazing Jim Jarmusch stuff here 🫖

There is a difference between righteous anger, directed at injustice, and hateful anger, directed at those who are different. Authoritarian regimes deliberately conflate the two to silence criticism and create false equivalence. It's important we don't let those in power succeed in this endeavor.
