That said…poor Democratic numbers are often driven by Democratic voters’ anger at their party not doing enough rather than rejection of what their party would do in power.

CBS News poll shows the Democratic Party's favorable rating at 34%, with 66% disapproving. Again, part of the reason is weak approval with their own base — 1 in 5 Democrats view it unfavorably. That's twice the share of Republicans with an unfavorable view of their party.

Trump's lust for a Nobel and demand of subservience from interlocutors have become levers that Ukraine and Hamas, just to name two, have been able to use in leveraging a more favorable position from Washington. And it works because other caudillo's cannot afford to publicly bend to his will.

The regime's desire for authoritarianism is bottomless, but their capacity is not. Not even close.

They rely on bluster and memes to make up the difference. The threat is real, but less powerful than they say.

So much Democrat and pundit handwringing about the shutdown as if they're in charge of the government.

They're not. The only possibilities are Trump makes things worse with Democratic approval or Trump makes things worse despite Democratic resistance. Don't bail him out.

This hits pretty strongly as a No True Scotsman fallacy. Fascism historically is not just an intense dictatorship. The obvious counter example...Mussolini started out within the parliamentary system and in a coalition government before the system transformed into a more muscular system.
