A few goodies waiting for me on my return home from our Spanish trip, of which this is one, possibly recommended by @richwatson.bsky.social

My Wimpy memories are more like that bit with Dudley as the short-order cook in Bedazzled. Condensation on the windows and a bogey on the cup handle.

I reckon it must all be be heavily location influenced.

Does anyone remember when some of the early UK McDonalds restaurants were considered somewhat 'posh'. The one near me was full of large leafy pot plants, low ambience muzak and Athena shop style framed prints on the walls. We're talking 1976/1977 ...

One day I hope to find evidence (even a listing) for the show I appeared on. I have a vague idea he was standing in for someone else for a number of weeks

I guess it might be this:

" From 5 October 1986, Beadle presented Beadle's Brainbusters on the independent local radio network, with questions written by Beadle and Paul Donnelley. "

I know that he had another spell on radio in the mid 80s. I recall it being on Radio 2 but I could be wrong. It sticks in my head vividly as I phoned him up with a question about Executioner Pierrepoint.

Author and filmmaker Justine Bateman on generative AI
"They're trying to convince people they can't do the things they've been doing easily for years - to write emails, to write a presentation. Your daughter wants you to make up a bedtime story about puppies - to write that for you." We will get to the point, she says with a grim laugh, "that you will essentially become just a skin bag of organs and bones, nothing else. You won't know anything and you will be told repeatedly that you can't do it, which is the opposite of what life has to offer. Capitulating all kinds of decisions like where to go on vacation, what to wear today, who to date, what to eat.
People are already doing this. You won't have to process grief, because you'll have uploaded photos and voice messages from your mother who just died, and then she can talk to you via AI video call every day. One of the ways it's going to destroy humans, long before there's a nuclear disaster, is going to be the emotional hollowing-out of people." - author and filmmaker Justine Bateman from a piece by Emine Saner for the Guardian

That guy is really really enjoying himself though - happy as Larry. Got to love him 🫠

There are 3 bands I discovered via the thinness of my brother's bedroom wall:

Can via Hunters and Collectors
Velvets via The Gift
Swell Maps via H S Art

Also picked up on Jeremy Beadle's 9-month late night prog on LBC 1979/80. Beadle was cooler than Don Van Vliet back then.

So that was swell

This is absolutely special though.

I have developed a penchant for awful NWOBHM records from my early youth. And tomato soup. Trying to work out if the two are related.

Back to 1984, but excluding anyone who filmed a music video on a yacht ..

I think he just has 'phases'. But they all work out in the end. Still one of the most fascinating dudes (droods) of our time.

I understand he's recreating a full size ancient settlement in his back garden ... or so says Dorian
