I’ve said this before but it’s still true - these responses from @vscooper.micropopbio.org and @surtlab.bsky.social live rent-free in my head 20-50 times a year
The ⚡️Enter Singletons⚡️t-shirts for Binning Singletons. Black shirts, white text. Binning Singletons is in Metallica font. The 4 cartoon microbes are in white outline Vaughn’s response (nod to Enter Sandman) “Don’t forget my son To include everyone”
And Dave continues “We welcome yinz from within

The Dunning Kruger Vaccine will save us from everything, y’all
colincarlson.bsky.social
RFK has announced that he is developing a vaccine against all viruses. Yes, every single one. The whole, uh, "phylum"
RFK Jr: “We're developing a universal vaccine at NIH which is a vaccine that addresses the entire phylum of viruses.”

“It's a vaccine that mimics natural immunity and it is effective against any kind of mutation.”

“We believe it's gonna be effective against not only coronaviruses but also flu.”

“And it's gonna be a much safer and a much more effective vaccine.”

I get what @asm.org is trying to do with #ASMicrobe. But elimination of the POMS track means I submitted 3 different session proposals, 3x each, since they’re broadly relevant to all 3 sections. Hopefully the section planners will work together if more than 1 accepts the proposals.

honestly mostly what these fox graphics that clearly take completely for granted that the good things will be understood by the audience to be bad make me feel is that the gulf between me and the people who watch this is fundamentally insurmountable

Dear Science Journalists,

Please mention when your write-ups covers work that was funded by federal agencies that are now being dismantled, defunded, and censored.

The public needs to know what is being lost, and if you don't tell them in the context of Cool New Science, who will?

On a similar note:

The 50 senators who voted against this bill represent approximately 379.77 million people.

Washington, D.C., has a population roughly equivalent to Alaska's.

And it has zero senators. If D.C. had senators, the GOP megablil bill would have failed today.

Instead, Murkowski got carve-outs and money for Alaska, and then voted to subject DC to the bill

It’s that time again! Time for @skypeascientist.bsky.social’s 7th annual United States of Science Challenge!

Each bubble on this map represents classrooms we marched w/scientists this year.

$10 donations fill bubbles!

The first region to fill in all of their bubbles wins!

Lena Flörl and Nicholas A. Bokulich evaluated the efficacy of universal mitochondrial and chloroplast PNA blockers across a range of concentrations and estimated their impact on alpha and beta diversity. Learn more: doi.org/10.1094/PHYT...
Review of 25 studies applying the universal peptide nucleic acid (PNA) blockers developed by Lundberg et al. (2013) in 16S rRNA gene sequencing across different plant materials and organs reveals substantial variability in concentrations used
