A very cold Winter night a few years ago for day 5 #ArtAdventCalendar ...it was somewhere in the -40 zone and I could see the ice crystals dancing in the beam of my headlamp...and they created a beautiful lunar halo and pillars from house and street lights...very frosty but so special☺️

African buffalo are one of the most dangerous animals in Africa. They can way 900 kg and are apparently considered grumpy.
I’d be grumpy too if I had to carry a bunch of yelling red-billed oxpeckers around all the time!
This bull was slowly eating his way down the Sabi River in Kruger Park, SA
A bull African Buffalo crosses a river in Kruger park, South Africa. He is walking towards us and has quite large horns. He is carrying about a dozen red-billed oxpecker birds on his back. The oxpeckers are eating ticks and parasites off the buffalo and also acting as sentinels to warn the buffalo about approaching predators.

Of the hour I waited for the rare LeConte’s sparrow of Jamaica bay, it spent roughly 58 minutes tunneling through tall, dense grass, out of sight despite being within 15 feet.

Kuaihelani (Midway Atoll). Our cam once showed nearly empty landscape; now thousands of Mōlī (Laysan albatross) returnfor breeding season with black-footed albatross (ka’upu) in the mix.
Over 1 million more albatross will soon arrive at the world’s largest albatross colony.

It is protecting its eyes with its nictitating membrane (inner eyelid). There are droplets of water flying in all directions. The bowerbird is back on the edge of the bath, facing away from the water, shaking off the excess droplets which are shining in all the colours of the rainbow as they catch the sunlight. From this angle it's clear that the bowerbird has some of his mature black satin feathers on his left shoulder and around his eyes.
