My review of TRON Ares.

TRON Ares is a pretty interesting take on the concept of the franchise so far.
Jared Leto is an unfortunate choice for a lead actor, especially given the allegations surrounding him at the moment, making it a rather uncomfortable watch. I could easily see Keanu Reeves pulling off the role. His performance ironically lacks the emotions you would need for it, and I think Keanu could pull that off way better. It feels like any emotional scene he's in he's just staring blankly at the camera in a vain attempt at conveying SOMETHING and it just falls completely flat.
The others are doing a decent job though. It was a treat seeing Jeff Bridges again, although his age might make it difficult for him to return to any future TRON movies. Bruce Boxleitner was sorely missed though.
The story was interesting though and contained quite a few nostalgic nods to the past and some little easter eggs for classic fans. I also loved the Linux commands in the movie, lol.
In this day and age where AI is more of a hot topic than ever, it is nice that TRON explores the concept in its own quirky little way. This has always been a franchise that's toyed with the idea, ever since its conception in 1982.
AND of course, I have to mention the soundtrack. Nine Inch Nails was chosen to do the soundtrack this time, and the production team of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross served as executive producers on the film and you can definitely hear it. An absolute feast for the ears with masterful synth programming, sound design and punch. I've already ordered the vinyl of the soundtrack which I will be putting on heavy rotation.
So yeah, a pretty solid 7/10 where Jared Leto being the main reason I won't go any higher. Because even if you disregard the man behind the role, his performance just doesn't hid the necessary notes.
