2/2 looking around, and before I could stop myself, I would invariably say, "Need a hand, Tom?"

To his credit, he always responded, "No, thanks. Already got one. But if you could help me move this ..."

Back in my roadie days, I did a few gigs with a local band whose lead singer had a prosthetic left forearm. He also played organ, and he was old-school enough to haul a B-3 to each gig.

Did most of his own set-up himself, leaving me to deal with the rest. But there were times when I'd see him 1/2

That's the best portrait of @radiofreetom.bsky.social I've ever seen.

2/2 is pure info, but 1/3 of the country would say it was pure political propaganda, and all too many of the rest would murmur, "You may have a point there."

Also, I still think one reason we lost in '24 was not enough politicking on social media by the Dems. So, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

I second your emotion, but I don't think it's possible, even if there were political will. For example, how would you have characterized the Biden Administration's efforts to get the word out about the safety of vaccines and the dangers of crackpot "cures"? You and I would of course say this 1/2

>> I am not a total fan of Cletus Safaris,

I meant to add "especially when the NYT seems positively allergic to doing anything equivalent for a liberal or educated or urban group.

Because their votes count just as much.

I am not a total fan of Cletus Safaris, and I'm sure Steve's post is going to make me regret commenting before I read it, but I don't mind an occasional look into what the other side is thinking. Gotta know your enemy if you want to win a war.

In some places, you even get a pretty nice paycheck. I think it's $300 around here. One long-ass day, plus a training day or two.

YOU COULD BUY A PIECE OF BROCCOLI.

Feel you. I'm pretty sure they're going to rename Muphry's Law after me any day now.

What @malaclypse.bsky.social said. And also: realize that the regime is spending close to 100% of its ICE resources just trying to intimate one medium-sized city. They are not going to be able to recapitulate this across the entire country. And if they try, it will just boost opposition even more.

Hard same.

That is a great tip which can't be restated too often.

FFS, leave this poor man alone.

ROFL!

Oh, Gym. You are forever getting left behind when the train leaves the station, aren't you?

Imagine being a Republican senator and being this far behind on the message of the day. Sad!

Except for this one thing! ;)

I still do not know what “subject” and “object” mean, in any way that helps me with grammar. Partly b/c of my 8th grade English teacher. Mostly b/c the "take out the other person and see how it sounds" rule always works.
January 15, 2026 at 5:02 PM
This. So much this. Possibly the only rule for grammar in the English language that is 100% certain.

It is a medium peeve of mine that so many people get the latter wrong, esp in this light.

Unfortunately, the error is so common, it is now borderline accepted. I blame @scalzi.com, among others.

We're now at the stage where I am ready to support impeachment for thought crimes.

Left.

They're both great ideas, though.
January 15, 2026 at 4:53 PM
Gotta wonder how many people in late-1930s Germany were saying, "I had no idea!"

It is so frustrating, isn't it? I don't expect everyone to be AlwaysOnline. I know people have busy lives and other concerns.

But it really doesn't take more than a few minutes a day to at least check the headlines.
