This is kind of my introductory post. It's great to meet so many people over here again. I'm not a direct refugee from Twitter/X: I have left that years ago but went to Mastodon. That's still great but rather quiet.
As you may know, I'm primarily interested in #music, particularly #modernist.

Yes, but English?! In any case, she is a Computing Studies graduate, a field with some of the highest rates of graduate unemployment and lowest rates of pay - I think worse than English (last time I checked, but these things vary significantly).

In the early days of Wikipedia I created a fake entry about my village that included a fake Lord in the middle ages named after an 80s B Movie action hero. It is still up and being taught in the local Primary school as fact.

No doubt, although Brexit has led to an entirely home-grown successive radicalisation among the Tories. Jenrick started as a moderate, but moved further and further to the right, out of cynical calculation, more than conviction.

Well, what is all the fuss about making indefinite leave to remain harder, then? Is there any evidence that there is a problem with it? I'm an immigrant and I don't get the vibe that the home secretary is on my side at all, sorry!

It's never been easy, and there has been anti-immigrant rhetoric for as long as I've been here (1998), but there is a new quality to this, and it's nasty and disgusting!

It seems that the political mainstream in the UK, from Labour to Reform and including most of the media, has decided that immigrants (all of us) are the enemy. There have to be as few of us as possible, and those of us who remain are at best tolerated, as long as our lives are as difficult as poss.

What are they thinking?! At the moment when they're about to ditch some of their most toxic policies, they are adopting a new one that can only further lose them support. No sense of direction or strategy beyond the next focus group meeting.
