A new article in Ecology and Evolution on apparent survival rates for two populations of Golden Eagles in Scotland. Shed feathers were collected at nest sites for genotyping and sexing. Mark-recapture models used to estimate demographic rates.🪶https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ece3.72912

Year list totals for 2025: 228 bird species on 443 checklists in 9 countries, including 203 species for Norway. Five new species included Stejneger’s Scoter, Scottish Crossbills, Gray-headed Woodpecker, Little Bunting and Red-throated Pipit. Looking forward to a fresh start on January 1! #eBird

eBird data for Dec-Feb from the last decade shows vultures wintering on the coasts but not in the Canadian prairies. ‘Buzzards’ might be used for Buteo hawks.

NINA har ledet et samarbeidsprosjekt som har vurdert miljøeffektene av fornybar energi. Nå har vi publisert en nettside med interaktive kart som sammenligner vannkraft, vindkraft på land og solenergi. Bransjeprognoser med mer energiutbygging vil kreve miljømessige avveininger. tinyurl.com/4wabb9hd

Found an odd male diving duck west of Kautokeino in Finnmark. A mixture of features suggest it might be a hybrid between Ring-necked Duck and Canvasback, both of which are North American species. A rare hybrid but then also unusual to turn up as vagrant in northern Norway. ebird.org/checklist/S2...

New article on land use efficiency of renewable energy in Norway. Production density (GWh/km2) was highest for small hydropower and low for land-based wind. Recorded 65 spp of birds in Lierne, Norway for #GlobalBigDay! Highlights included Capercaillie and Black Grouse, Ruff in breeding plumage, rooding Woodcock, courting Rough-legged Hawks, and first-of-year Common Sandpiper, Pied Flycatcher, and Common Redstart. ebird.org/tripreport/3...
