BREAKING: Brexit has done nothing to stop the sharp decline in UK fish populations.

Politicians have consistently set catch limits too high and allowed international trawlers to plunder our seas.

So much for putting our coastal communities first.

Co-production has limits, and can serve to reproduce power structures if emptied of its political, transformatory intent, but we must understand its emancipatory potential as an incremental strategy that has the power to transform urban planning practices. www.ucl.ac.uk/bartlett/pub...

Meta is building a $10B data center in rural Louisiana that will use more daily power than New Orleans in peak summer, to be powered by 3 new gas plants. It's unclear how much Meta will pay toward gas plants, raising concerns that residents could bear the cost through higher utility bills.
Louisiana's $3B power upgrade for Meta project raises questions about who should foot the bill
Meta is racing to construct its largest data center yet, a $10 billion facility in northeast Louisiana as big as 70 football fields and requiring more than twice the electricity of New Orleans.

CW: Rape

Reporting this absolutely horrific story as an ‘isolated incident’ in the same week we’re seeing such extensive coverage of far-right rallies is doing far more than not connecting the dots.

Meanwhile, I hope this woman finds justice and peace.

Flags are being weaponised.

The real issue is zero sum mentality. The £10/wk earmarked for heating or eating was initially fought over by low income communities. Now dwindling resource means these communities are uniting against refugees and asylum seekers. The £10/wk has more ground the cover.

Pollack? How low can you go?

Insightful article about how climate change is leading to fish migrating to new waters (conversations about migrating fish appear much more socially acceptable than migrating people right now).

While the civil service sits at the heart of decision making impacting the lives of millions, it sadly is not reflective of wider society.

The civil service is dominated by privilege, and people of colour sit at the bottom of the hierarchy without meaningful jobs.

🦈 It’s #SharkWeek and nurse shark mealtime in our 280,000-gallon Baja Bay habitat! 🦈

Our nurse sharks are trained to swim to specific stations during feeding time, making it easier for aquarists to monitor their health and ensure each shark gets exactly what it needs.

“They didn’t interview well.” A phrase that too often masks deeper issues.
In our latest push to diversify public sector [nature] Boards, I was told this about the few ethnically minoritised candidates. But what does it mean? Are we scrutinising them differently, or is the process itself flawed?
