Photo of a Kansas City Chiefs press conference with Andy Reid, Travis Kelce, and Patrick Mahomes. Reid is wearing a gray suit and red tie with a lapel pin. Kelce is wearing a camp-style short-sleeved shirt with a bird print, along with a suede cap, and Mahomes is wearing a white collared shirt, a pink checkered double-breasted vest, and a pale pink tie.

Reuters photographer Jonathan Ernst noticed that Bondi flipped open a file during the Senate hearing and he zoomed in.

Inside were her crib notes for attacking the senators.

The GOP now practicing Cliff's Notes Fascism

In other words, under oath Bondi was purely a performance.

Former academic book editor here. I immediately noticed that book on his page, too. And he's getting this level of grant after that?!

Hey, that's my senator! I wondered where he had gone.

New Yorkers can't ever forget our health workers after what they did for us during the worst of Covid. Good to see them represented here with their own voices.

(Nice shots of our part of Brooklyn, too.)

"So, Democrats have three words for this: no fucking way. It's literally life or death. We will not let Republicans blow up our health care system."

This is, hands down, the best comms work Chuck Schumer has done in YEARS. Surprisingly good.

I hadn't thought about it that way and you're absolutely right.

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

Has someone created a DHS tracker for its theocratic language? Seems significant to have one.

Please don't say "Why don't you create one?" because I am the person in the office who literally breaks the shared Excel sheets. I am NOT the person you want leading this project.

Department of Homeland Security recruiting people to join ICE & help "protect our sacred land." You don't get to claim you're protecting sacred land & show a church when you're arresting pastors & took away protection churches have from immigration raids!

Tell me again how American the immigrants from Germany were considered by nativists during WWI. Yeah, especially the ones that came over after 1848.

The nativist right keeps talking about “heritage Americans.” It's a buzzword engineered to move the goalposts on immigration even further, argues @alibreland.bsky.social.

Martyr language is always highly-charged, but the theology of Christian martyrdom does not strike back. The fascism of Christian Nationalism does.

Part of their plan to strip the federal government of their perceived enemies. Then they will fill vacancies with prosperity gospel adherents who think that God will pay them no matter what.
normative.bsky.social
This would be insanely stupid even if it were legal. "Come work for the federal government, where you randomly won't be paid whenever Congress is dysfunctional." What a recruiting poster.

Johnson: "It's true that in previous shutdowns, many or most furloughed employees have been paid for the time they were furloughed, but there is new legal analysis - I don't know the details, I just saw a headline - but there are some legal analysts saying that might not be appropriate or necessary"
