Over the weekend ICE abducted an NIH contractor when he showed up to a courthouse for his green card hearing. He is documented. His wife is a citizen.

He is also member of the skeleton crew of animal care staff that works through a shutdown, to ensure the health and wellbeing of research animals.

Yeah, no. The law is clear: federal workers must receive back pay.

AND I have a bill to ensure federal contractors get it as well.

Recommended primary source readings in contemporary Islam?

Okay: a question at the edge of my teaching:
For a world religions survey, I'm assigning a bunch of Islamic sources spanning the 1447 (lunar) years since the Hijra, but I don't know recent stuff as well as I know medieval stuff. Any good recommendations for Islam today that are 1st-year accessible?

Igor Stravinsky could have heard all the original Beatles albums. And he DID hear Charlie Parker live in a club once; Parker acknowledged his presence by quoting a melody from the Firebird (in some tellings, the Rite of Spring), causing Stravinsky to pound his table in laughter, spilling his drink.

I think more people should be aware of how much cool stuff Link does in real life. He’s not just a poster.

Yesterday, flights were delayed an average of 53 minutes out of Newark and 39 minutes out of Denver. And at Hollywood Burbank Airport, the average ground delay was two and a half hours. That airport had no air traffic controllers for over five hours Monday.
The government shutdown is snarling air travel. Officials say it could get worse
A dozen facilities saw air traffic control shortages on Monday, delaying flights at several airports. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy blamed “a slight tick-up in sick calls” due to the shutdown.

The cuts at the National Endowment for the Humanities go far deeper than any of these agencies - almost 70% of 179 people were terminated, despite no change to the agency's budget.

There were no savings here - only idealogical destruction. #NEH
