Doanld Trump is still President. In many ways, no longer a danger, in some ways, a very big danger. But it apepars he's done politically.

Now, JD Vance. He'll be weak except for support from the Tech bros. MAGA has no love for him. Evangelicals have no love for him. GOP has no love for him.

I have committed to living more ethically. So I avoid cruelty except for cruel people. So I'll be honest. I despise Van Jones for being foolish in face of Trump.

To be fair, he seems benign, not harmful, doing a job, earning a livelihood.

There's lots of names for this form of Reality modeling. If you drive through Chesapeake Bay tunnels, you notice you're always level, the next bend is always up even when you entered a tunnel.

Humans do not experience reality directly. We experience filtered reality. Language, reward, punishment, fear, belonging, repetition. These forces shape what even registers as real. Wilson called these filters reality tunnels. They are not beliefs. They are perceptual environments. They decide what you notice, what you dismiss, and what feels emotionally true long before logic enters the room. Wilson was not a partisan and not a culture warrior. He distrusted certainty wherever it appeared. His project was epistemology for ordinary people. Why intelligent adults believe absurd things. Why evidence rarely changes minds. Why certainty feels like strength and doubt feels like danger. His answer was blunt. Once a reality tunnel stabilizes, contradictory information does not correct it. It threatens it. Everyone lives inside a tunnel. Religious people. Atheists. Investors. Nationalists. Academics. The difference is not who has one. It is flexibility. Some tunnels are porous. Some are rigid. Some allow contradiction to enter and rearrange the furniture. Others respond to contradiction with anger, mockery, or outright hostility. Before politics, this is easy to see. Two people watch the same market crash and see opposite causes. Two people read the same religious text and see opposite meanings. Two people watch the same protest and see either democracy or chaos. The disagreement is not about facts. It is about filters. What counts as signal. What gets labeled noise. What threatens identity. Wilson emphasized that intelligence does not free you from this. It often locks you in tighter. Smart people are better at rationalization. Better at selective skepticism. Better at defending a bad map with elegant arguments. Intelligence becomes a tool of tunnel maintenance rather than exploration. This is where modern American politics stops being mysterious. Rush Limbaugh’s “dittohead” was not branding. It was training. Pride in echoing. Outsourcing perception. Loyalty rewarded with belonging. Questioning reframed as weakness. Wilson would have recognized it instantly. A stable reality tunnel requires repetition, emotional payoff, and social reinforcement. “Ditto” was an epistemic instruction. Do not process. Do not compare. Do not doubt. Repeat and feel righteous. MAGA did not invent this. It industrialized it. MAGA is not best understood as a political ideology. It is a closed perceptual system. Its language is not designed to argue. It is designed to compress and block. Fake news. Both sides. Deep state. Liberal kool aid. These phrases do not answer questions. They prevent questions from forming. They collapse complexity before cognition has a chance to engage. This explains the pairing of anti intellectualism with hostility. Thinking introduces ambiguity. Ambiguity destabilizes tunnels. Intellectuals are not distrusted because they are wrong. They are distrusted because they introduce friction. They slow reflex. They ask for evidence. A rigid tunnel experiences that as threat. Hostility is not a flaw in the system. It is a requirement. This also explains the most disturbing part. The intelligent people. The lawyers, engineers, academics, and professionals who suddenly sound unhinged. Their intelligence did not disappear. It was reassigned. Inside a rigid tunnel, intellect stops exploring and starts guarding. Reasoning becomes instrumental. Facts are cherry picked. Skepticism is applied outward only. Intelligence builds a moat around the tunnel rather than a bridge out of it. Projection is the tell. Accusations of brainwashing, propaganda, and kool aid drinking are not irony. They are structural blindness. You cannot see your own filters. Ideology is always something other people have. From inside a tunnel, neutrality looks like betrayal and nuance looks like cowardice. The “both sides” reflex deserves special attention. It masquerades as sophistication while doing the least intellectual work possible. If everything is equally corrupt, then nothing needs close examination. It anesthetizes moral judgment and blocks accountability. It is not balance. It is abdication.
