I'm looking into a potential story about job seeking on LinkedIn and I would love to hear from folks who have *not* been financially scammed but felt like a job listing or prospective employer they've interviewed with had ulterior motives. Send tips to [email protected].

The internet’s down and suddenly it’s chaos. Welcome to a day in the life of blind and partially sighted people trying to access websites that aren't accessible, it’s like the internet’s down all the time.

Why do I keep getting asked how I use a computer?
Assistive technology has existed since the 1980s. Most Windows, Apple, and Android devices now have built-in assistive technologies. Anyone who is IT literate enough to set up their own smartphone should know. When in job interviews, this comes up

You know the Politco article about the Young Republicans praising Hitler and spewing hate speech?
They redacted every slur except the R word.
That tells you everything you need to know about how pervasive ableism is.
No social justice without disability justice.

Neurologically speaking, there's no such thing as 'useless' subjects or 'rip-off' degrees
Insisting we should only teach useful subjects is like saying science should only do research that gives positive results
If you honestly believe that's how anything works, *your* education was the wasted one

What annoys me most though is that it's just a mindset that lacks any understanding of impact.
Nodding sagely about being inclusive, while also complaining not being allowed to just throw up a Squarespace site for their particular thing.
Everyone is an ally until it involves plans or effort.

The big downside to job hunting is not that people never get back to you. It is all the scammers who think job hunters are easy targets.

I apply for a job
They invited for an interview
They then come back with "We have decided to go with someone with a few more years of experience, but I think you were great and wish you all the best"
me sighs
This has been the case for every job I have applied for since April.

What does this letter say?
Imagine this letter contains essential information and you can’t access it.
You can’t decipher the blurred text, the paper colour makes the type disappear, and the few words that you manage to read are worrying or confusing. 1/
