As a guy who just finished climbing around on the roof to install leaf traps, allow me to welcome you to your new reality 😂

Take care of yourself and your family. Try to be nice to people. Appreciate the relationships and things you have and take a walk outside as often as you can. Do what you can to make the world an infinitesimally better place. I think that's pretty much all that us normals can do. ;-)

Anyway, I've been thinking about this stuff a lot lately and it just seems weird that we should have so many reasons to be optimistic at a moment when so many bad things are happening around us. But to any young people reading, please let me assure you, this is not any normal moment in history.

...(and of course I'm cognizant that Lincoln made that appeal just before the Civil War began, which makes the words that much more poignant/frightening). The magnitude of the probable change ahead means this doesn't have to be a zero-sum game, but a lot of folks seem to want it to be one anyway.

They won't succeed (no group could, the world has changed in that time) but what may emerge could be something unrecognizable to those of us who remember 'normal' politics -- although it has been drifting toward the current state of chaos we find ourselves in for a long time, we just didn't see it.

At the same time, our polity has changed radically in a relatively short amount of time. The current occupant of the White House is not a 'normal' Republican politician. And the people in charge of US policy seem to bizarrely want to turn back our society 70 (or more!) years.

AI, quantum computing, nuclear, and blockchain are going to transform our country and world in ways we can't imagine. Barring some cataclysmic event (always a non-zero probability), we will solve problems and answer questions that have eluded us as a species for millenia.
