open world games taught me that I’d rather pick flowers for 80 hours than finish anything important.

I find it useful as a resource to make certain fundamental choices more conscious so I can play around and tap into a different perspective of what I want to say. It can be helpful as long as it serves and challenges our creativity and isn’t taken as a formula I guess
How to ppl feel about Chuck Pahlaniuk's advice about avoiding the use of 'thought verbs' in fiction? Ie, never using 'she thought, felt, imagined, remembered' etc, and instead 'unpacking' the sentence to show evidence that the thinking/feeling/imagining is taking place.

devastating how after game of thrones season 4 they just decided to sacrifice basically every magic element from asoiaf or use them in the most superficial and boring way possible

I hadn't read this 2020 essay, but it's exceptional. The bonds between the Māori and their land Aotearoa are woven through long years of memory and song. So also Middle-earth and its invented peoples. But Aotearoa is NOT Middle-earth, and forgetting that risks erasing the reality with the fiction.
Aotearoa is not Middle-earth
Middle Earth has been clinging to Aotearoa for nearly 20 years. It's time to push the two apart.
