The Horsehead and Flame Nebulas 🔥

I tracked this dramatic area in 'Orion's Belt' for nearly 8 hours to capture the light for this photo.

For a deep-dive on the telescopes I use for photos like this (including this one), check out my updated guide: astrobackyard.com/best-astroph...

Will this be the Summer you capture Andromeda? 🤔

Talk about the ultimate astrophotography target. A massive, frame-filling spiral galaxy that forces you to rethink your existence.

Hubble captures the spiral galaxy NGC 2841, 46 million light-years away in Ursa Major. Its bright core, dust lanes, and blue stars stand out, but fewer emission nebulae suggest lower star formation. Fiery young stars likely cleared the remaining gas.

Here is the Dark Shark Nebula that I took last year with my refractor telescope and a color camera. It’s about 650 light years away which is quite close on the cosmic scale. This is quite a challenging target to capture and process.

Heading straight into galaxy season with M101, the Pinwheel Galaxy, a target I’ve never really loved and had only attempted a couple of times with my DSLR 2 years ago, when I was just starting out. Went back to it yesterday and I’d say I’ve come a long way in these two years... 🔭

What I've noticed over the years is that the more one gets into #astronomy, the more interesting it becomes. It's the best vicious circle ever. A hobby for life.

I meet happy people.

Ever looked up and spotted a twinkling gem? That’s Capella, just 42 light-years away, made up of not one, but two giant stars locked in an eternal dance! It’s one of the brightest stars in our night sky! #astronomy @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social
