Has Klein really not apologized for saying such a stupid, harmful thing?
boazhsan.bsky.social
Gendlin’s description of time in The Process Model is maddening to read. And yet somehow I keep coming back to try to understand it.

I'm just saying that we often have written him off as being foolish or stupid or now perhaps senile, and he has often come back and done major damage. He probably is losing cognitive function, but he's also quite able to scheme and lie and continue the destruction.

I’ll be happy to accept this when he’s out of power.

They’re using American tax dollars to fund infrastructure in Argentina because that’s where they’re all going to flee when we kick them out of office

After announcing a $20 billion bailout of Argentina, the White House now says it's pausing $18 billion in funding for NYC infrastructure projects

Who should we replace the missing Republicans with?
reptedlieu.bsky.social
We are in the second week of the Republican shutdown.

Where are House Republicans? On vacation.

Went looking around the Capitol to see if any Republicans had the common sense to come back. Featuring @mcbride.house.gov.

Wise words from @hcrichardson.bsky.social

We need to stay sober and reality based more than ever right now.

I have little idea why the Republicans have supported Trump thus far, but I suppose better late than never?

People are hating them more and more, so they just up the insanity and fascism. More and more orgs are stepping up and saying no.

People are really into doomcasting on this fucking app. No, the Trump admin can't do *anything* they want, yet. If they could, they wouldn't be arguing in court. Stop ceding power to these fuckers that they don't have.

If I refused to work, I would be fired. Maybe some special elections need to start happening?

I'd like to think this is true, but his lying is highly strategic.
boazhsan.bsky.social
He's always been very able and willing to lie constantly.
boazhsan.bsky.social
Trump has always been a shameless liar. That's the simpler explanation.

I admit that having gone down this path, it is hard to integrate with my physics training. It could be all wrong, or unfixably murky, but I do think there are some interesting ideas to explore.
I really enjoyed @evanthompson.bsky.social et al's "The Blind Spot", which partially put me on this path.

I'll look at Price's book. I've been reading Milič Čapek's "The Philosophical Impact of Contemporary Physics" suggesting that quantum mechanics says we need a different view of time following these process philosophers. They don't talk in terms of an extra time dimension, more as experiential time.
boazhsan.bsky.social
I usually think that way also. But I've been reading about ontology such as that proposed by Alfred North Whitehead and others in this tradition that does give a kind of reality to possibility. It's also motivated by trying to have an ontology big enough to include first person experience.

I am not a DSA member and I have various grievances with different local DSA chapters and committees, but I will 100% join and start paying them dues at the first sign that Trump is going to weaponize DOJ and DHS against them.

People elected a liar. And the liar continues to lie.

“Sin has many tools, but a lie is the one that fits all of them.”

Trump: "I don't know what could be worse than Portland. You don't even have stores anymore. They don't even put glass up. They put plywood on their windows."

I guess they think they get power by claiming connection to the Nazis, whereas they are really more a continuation of the history of racism and the losers from the civil war. Maybe we should call them confederates instead of Nazis or Fascists.

From Donald Trump's Roundtable on Antifa just now —
"Antifa has been around in various iterations for almost 100 years in some instances, going back to the Weimar Republic in Germany."

Yes, perhaps it comes down to a second time dimension in specific models. I have read stuff about having many time dimensions to explain QM... doesn't make much sense to me.
I was inspired by Barandes' indivisible processes which potentially yields an interesting alternative perspective on time.
boazhsan.bsky.social
I also really like the clarity of the block universe and have mostly assumed that. But this picture of taking possibility as seriously as actuality is compelling to me, even if it remains vague...
boazhsan.bsky.social
Thanks for the book recommendation.
The process philosophy I've seen isn't so much about having a second time dimension as having some kind of experiential picture of time (e.g. Bergson's "duration", Heidegger and Gendlin's "being time", ...).
boazhsan.bsky.social
Thanks, it does seem murky, and it does feel like a step in the right direction to me. I've been reading a lot of "process philosophy" and now trying to get back to more standard quantum mechanics and see if anything I learned could be applied.
