Until World Bollard comes over from the dark side here’s some hot bollard action from the Strand Aldwych London

It's impressive how quickly Paris has transformed car-dominant roads, prioritising more efficient modes of transportation. One lane for drivers on the right side, made to wallow in their own stop-and-start inefficiency, two giant lanes for bikes.

80000+ cycle journeys in Autumnal weather this week along the Embankment. Tell me cycling is not popular in London. The counter was fixed last week @cs3cs6count.bsky.social
bobfromaccounts.bsky.social
After not working for three months, it's been fixed in the last few days. London was well on its way to passing 3 million cycle journeys on this route, a new record, but I guess we will never know now. Until next year, then @cs3cs6count.bsky.social

There is still a group of Nimbys and taxi drivers who prefer this to the pedestrianisation of Oxford Street, thinking retail will close & crowds disappear. If only Oxford St had at least 6 Tube lines and several stations within walking distance, connecting all of London, then maybe, this might work

Can't come soon enough.

'The Transport & Environment thinktank has urged the government to use the autumn budget to bring in a levy on the largest vehicles, which it said would reflect the damage they caused to the environment and infrastructure.'
UK could raise nearly £2bn by taxing SUVs in line with European countries, study shows
Thinktank says an ‘SUV loophole’ means UK buyers pay up to 20 times less tax on biggest models than in neighbouring nations

Roads busier this morning in London? The school run is back.

The school run accounts for nearly 30% of morning traffic in London ( 43% in Tower Hamlets)

You may well ask ‘How am I supposed to do the school run with 4 kids without an SUV ?’

Tell me they're not having fun

Waiting for that tipping point when most sensible people realise that transporting a single 80kg person in 2.5 tonnes of SUV was not the height of technical advancement but peak stupidity for the human race.

And it's Hackney local derivative... 'There was never any traffic on Graham Road before LTNs'

No. The average speed of traffic in London is 10.6 mph; the primary cause of obstruction to emergency services is traffic and poorly parked vehicles

Post this on the other hellsite and the comments inevitably lead to ' where do they fit the patients '

When you need to get somewhere quickly in a city, biking is always the best option. Chapeau London Ambulance E-Bikes

Watched a while ago and really enjoyed it. Getting from A to B doesn’t have to be soul-destroying, stuck in a prison of your own choosing. It can be wind-in-the-hair enjoyable. People look upon bicycles as childish, toy-like. Duh, yeah - toys are fun - being a kid again is fun - hence biking is fun!

WATCH & SHARE: This is very good. A prominent youtuber is actually giddy (but also very thorough in covering the joys, advantages, issues and challenges) about how trying biking for transportation in London has changed his life.

Easy to watch & more convincing probably than 99% of public campaigns.

Private vehicles account for 80% of UK traffic.
There's no benefit for me in that. Tax them for the privilege.
bobfromaccounts.bsky.social
Absolutely. The difference is that Soho is under the hold of one of London's most notorious NIMBY clubs, the Soho Society.

I love the Strand Aldwych. It used to be four lanes of traffic that cut off St. Mary le Strand Church, but now it's a space for people and plants. Once these changes are made in cities, no one ever wants to revert to the way things were. ♥️ London
