Watching Jay, I realize I am simply exhausted by folks in positions of leadership who are driven to distraction by critique.

If you can't function with critique and pushback, a leadership position is not for you.

Leadership REQUIRES you to absorb and process the critique of stakeholders.

There are a few challenges here, though. Building an ecosystem of alternate moderation systems requires third parties — both devs _and_ moderation experts — to trust in you all as both stewards of the infrastructure for that ecosystem *and* operators of the biggest/default instance of that system.

And they’ve only pointed those out because they *care* enough about the site to have strong feelings, and they have trusted you enough over time to think it’s even worth engaging. Whoever is giving you affirmation or positive responses for this is giving you bad counsel as a leader.

This sucks, because it doesn’t read as lighthearted in-joking about the culture of this site (which I would assume is probably your intent), it looks like poking at already-upset people who think you don’t care about the legitimate frustrations they’ve had about Bluesky.

recognize evil

There is a gulf in America. I submit it is the gulf between good and evil, or at least not-evil and evil.

The gulf is not just between people who oppose this and people who are indifferent to it or reluctantly accept it in support of immigration policy or see it as collateral damage.

This raid is disgusting, abominable behavior, traumatizing children and families in their homes.

Community management is a skill and a whole ass profession and maybe they should hire someone who is good at it instead of whatever they’re doing now.

i am catching up on the moderation discourse and it’s really annoying that this episode basically goes back to leadership trying to have a goof and a gag. there’s not a lot of room-reading happening which comes across as immature and unprofessional
