I don't want to start a thing so I'll just say that there will never be a good argument for privatizing USPS. That would be like privatizing libraries. The aim of services isn't to be run for profit, they are for serving the greater good, which USPS has been extremely successful at.

Republicans snuck a provision into the rule for the CR that would preemptively surrender congressional authority to block tariffs.

When House Republicans vote for this rule today, they will also be voting to support Trump's tariffs and all the resulting damage to the US economy

A few of you have asked me what to tell members of Congress if you call them. I don't know how to write scripts. But this is my best stab at explaining how I see the situation and what Democrats need to do. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/what-...

I feel like I'm going insane every time I see a media story about DOGE that doesn't also mention the fact that the Government Accountability Office exists and performs the exact function that DOGE pretends to, only in a credibly constitutional, non-partisan, and conflict-of-interest-free manner

We’re not free until we’re all free.

And the corollary of that—and I need some people to REALLY fucking internalize this—is that if you gamble with someone else’s freedom, you’re risking your own.

You don’t often see what the bureaucrats do, how the civil servants are serving you but I can assure you they are. When they are gone you will miss them because without #civilservants, you will no longer have a civil society.

The media is still calling it “cost-cutting” and “finding waste” when Musk’s crusade is obviously ideologically-driven

Hearing nonsense that Ds are threatening a shutdown. False. Entire matter is in GOP hands. What's happening is that Rs are coming hat in hand to Ds for help because they can't agree among themselves. Ds shld have a simple demand. No help until the criminal conduct stops.

Losing NOAA would be devastating. Project 2025 authors want to get rid of it because it monitors climate change, and privatize the information it currently provides for free, so you'll have to buy information about the weather and the winds (imperative for mariners).

There’s a good reason stable, functional governments follow standard democratic procedures to make policy. Whatever else these memos are trying to do, there’s no way to achieve “government efficiency” through chaos, confusion, and caprice.
