I'm DM Larson, also know as BootlegPotato, and I make weird comics. Some of them are about robots, witches, office workers, aliens, and barbarians. Most of them are free online.

I know there was better representation to be found but, as a kid in the 90s, I didn't have means to find them.

Panel 1 the first caption reads "The only elder queer representation I remember growing up was the Birdcage." They got bought out by Canva a while ago and introduced AI earlier this year. Grab copies of the 2.5 version of the software while you can (v2.6 introduced AI).

If one of the big changes is moving to v3 then the v2 downloads will probably disappear like the v1 downloads did.

I'm trying to think of something comparable to 2005 internet nonsense from the 1980s. There was certainly weirdos going all the way back in time but I think the internet might have allowed everyone's inner theater kid to get out unsupervised.

Well damn. I didn't have a specific song in mind but I probably wrote this strip a bit after learning about Adriano Celentano. So I can't say it wasn't an influence. Brains work in weird ways.

Hair metal was singled out because it makes for funnier sound effects coming out of the phone.

I'm grateful that by the time G.B. Jr took office I had moved somewhere more indifferent but Reagan and G.B. Sr casted a long shadow. Particularly Reagan.

I'm not someone who general experiences body dysmorphia but trying to figure out how to draw myself was difficult. Probably why I don't normally do autobio/memoir comics.

The author is author is depicted off to the side of the cake looking concern but hold party noise makers. Panel 2,3, and 4 depicts the author in various outfits with arrows noting features. The first one notes their lack of hair on their head but the abundance on their shoulders, the second has them wearing a vest and horned rimmed glasses, the third has them wearing a flat cap and mustache. The caption over these panels says "I'm not entirely sure how to be old." The captions continue to the fifth panel that reads "It isn't like there was a lot of queer role models when I was growing up. You know for reasons..." The illustration of the fifth panel depicts the author as a young kid stand alone with questions mark float where peers and role model would be depicted. There is also arrows point to the author's hair saying "Li'l me with 90s mullet."
