Chadbourne Street in Brentwood, CA. this is the former residence of the late director, producer, screenwriter, and actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele. on December 14, 2025, the couple's youngest child, Romy, had gone to the house with her roommate after the Reiners' massage therapist informed her that the couple had missed their appointment. Romy discovered her father’s body, but was not aware that her mother was at home, and was later told of her mother's death. at 3:38 p.m, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical aid call at the residence. the same day, the LAPD arrested the Reiners' son Nick near the University of Southern California on suspicion of murder. Nick had been living with his parents at the time. Rob and Nick had attended a Christmas party hosted by Conan O'Brien on the evening of December 13 and reportedly had an argument. Nick had been disruptive at the party and had made guests feel uneasy; sources who attended the party, but wished to remain anonymous told The New York Times that the loud argument between Nick and Rob started after Rob told Nick that his behavior at the party was not appropriate. on December 16, 2025, Nick was charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders. Rob and Michele Reiner were cremated at Mount Sinai Memorial Park; their remains were given to their son Jake for private disposition. funeral plans for the family were not made public. on December 22, 2025, Jake and Romy Reiner issued a statement confirming that they were making plans for a public memorial service and would release details at a future date. there is a bitter irony in that when I visited, a security patrol car that was cruising by stopped and asked me if I was lost; the very idea of their neighborhood having "security" but they were still murdered in their own home adds to the tragedy. various bouquets and small candles left on the right side of the front white wooden fence gate of 255 N. 172. because I never do anything in order, we circle back now to Anaheim, specifically Republic Services; this is where the body of Jarrae Nykkole Estepp (21) was discovered on a conveyor belt, a victim of serial killer Steven Dean Gordon and his accomplice Franc Cano; see alt text for details
Republic Services; on March 14, 2014, employees had discovered the body of Jarrae Nykkole Estepp (21) among a pile of trash on a conveyor belt. a joint investigation was launched into the disappearances of three other women: Josephine Monique Vargas (34), Martha Anaya (28), and Kianna Rae Jackson (20). police examined items found on the conveyor belt near Estepp's corpse. fingerprints on a used can of foam belonged to a resident of Anaheim who worked as a plastic window installer. on the day Estepp's corpse was supposedly dumped, the man was installing windows on a storefront next to the auto shop where Steven Dean Gordon worked. while reviewing a database of sex offenders with ankle bracelet monitors, the investigators learned that both Gordon and Cano were at each respective location when each respective victim disappeared, which included the dumpster. only Estepp's body has ever been found; Vargas, Anaya, and Jackson have never been located to this day. during an interrogation that lasted over 13 hours, Gordon confessed to five murders despite not remembering the name of his fifth victim. when it came to Estepp, Gordon told authorities that he initially had no plans to kill her, as he had taken quite a liking to her; he claimed that he tried to convince her to quit prostitution and become his roommate, but she refused. an argument then occurred, during which Estepp sprayed Gordon with mace and attempted to leave the car. this greatly angered Gordon, who subsequently attacked, raped, and killed her. Gordon was found guilty on all counts; six days later, after only a day of deliberations, the jury returned a death verdict against him. Gordon himself praised the jury, refused to ask for leniency from the court, and expressed apparent remorse for his actions. he said Cano also deserved the death penalty for his involvement. on February 3, 2017, Gordon was officially sentenced to death, whereupon he was transferred to San Quentin State Prison.

171. we now proceed to the intersection of Arizona and 2nd Street, where on July 16, 2003, 10 people would lose their lives and 70 others would be critically injured. this would be known as the Santa Monica Farmers Market massacre; see alt text for details
the intersection of 2nd Street and Arizona in Santa Monica, CA. on the afternoon of July 16, 2003, George Weller (86) drove his 1992 Buick LeSabre westbound down Arizona Avenue in Santa Monica, CA, toward the city's popular Third Street Promenade. Weller's car struck a 2003 Mercedes-Benz S430 sedan that had stopped to allow pedestrians through a crosswalk, then accelerated around a road closure sign, crashed through wooden sawhorses, and plowed through the busy marketplace crowd, traveling nearly 1,000 feet at speeds between 40 and 60 mph; the entire sequence of collisions took at least ten seconds. when the car finally came to a halt, Weller killed ten people and injured 70; he told investigators that he had accidentally placed his foot on the accelerator pedal instead of the brake, then tried to brake but could not stop. authorities would later disprove his claim. in court, Judge Michael Johnson cited Weller's callousness towards what transpired and indifference towards his victims and their families. despite it all, Weller was placed on probation, citing poor health and his age. one victim called Weller a coward for not showing up at the hearing. survivors wept and many concluded that the trial accomplished nothing in the end. in May 2008, the LA Times reported that the city of Santa Monica had paid out $21 million to settle dozens of civil lawsuits stemming from the case. Weller, then 91, was confined to 24 hour home care.

168. and for the next few posts, we descend into one of Los Angeles' lesser known bizarre evils, the Divine Order of the Royal Arms of the Great Eleven - or more succinctly, the Blackburn Cult; first, we begin at 355 S. Grand, now a high-rise building for Wells Fargo; see alt text for details

Wieland would further assert that over 42 days, Gabriel appeared and dictated the "Lamb’s Book of Life" to her and her mother May Otis Blackburn, but only if they stayed inside and away from everyone else around them. the handwritten book was so vast that it would have taken sixteen stenographers six months to transcribe it. both Ruth and her mother were convinced that they were chosen to write books revealing the mysteries of Heaven and Earth, and life and death. not only that, but the mother-daughter duo were also in the business of conning men out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. this was only the beginning of a very strange movement in Los Angeles...

167. now we head back into the heart of Los Angeles for a vintage case, the serial killer known as the Bouncing Ball Killer - and arrive at 3793 S Western Ave, the home of one of his known victims, 83 year old Grace Moore; see alt text for details
3793 S Western Ave in Los Angeles, CA. on June 20, 1960, 83 year old Grace Moore was found murdered in her residence. investigations into her murder as well as other similar cases during that time were attributed to an unidentified serial killer known as the Bouncing Ball Killer. this individual was named as such due to witnesses claiming to have seen the suspect bouncing a toy ball at several of the crime scenes. other known victims include Ruth Gwinn (57), Amanda E. Rockefellow (73), Ann Cotter (60), Elmyra Miller (74), Bessie Elva Green (60), and Mercedes Langeron (72). suspected additional victims include, but are not limited to, Mrs. Modie Hall (51), Hall's 10-year-old granddaughter Mary Foster, and Lena Bensusen (84). despite several arrests made during and after the investigation, these remain cold cases and the Bouncing Ball Killer has yet to be identified.

166. next, we go to Fullerton and arrive at 401 S. Gilbert St. this was the scene of a triple homicide on September 24, 2016. one of the more unusual cases that also involved allegations of sexual abuse and the furry community - see alt text for details
401 S. Gilbert St., a residence in Fullerton, CA once occupied by the Yost family. on September 24, 2016, perpetrators Joshua Acosta and Frank Felix went to the Yosts' Fullerton home. Acosta, using a shotgun provided by Felix, shot and killed the Yosts' friend Arthur Boucher as he slept on the couch, the mother Jennifer Yost in her bed, and stepfather Christopher Yost as he tried to flee. the couple's two younger daughters, aged six and nine, discovered the bodies the next morning and called 911. both Acosta and Felix, as well as Christopher and Jennifer Yost (and later eldest daughter Katlynn), were involved in the furry community. Jennifer Goodwill Yost was like a "mother" to many members of SoCal Furs, a local furry group. Christopher and Jennifer eventually brought Katlynn along to attend furry gatherings and this led to her joining a furry online community herself as Daydreamer Foxwolf. as such, Katlynn met Felix (who went by Entey) and Acosta (a "brony" per his interest in the My Little Pony animated TV series) through the furry community; with Felix being 25 and Katlynn being 17, the age difference led the Yosts to forbid Katlynn from seeing Felix. in court, defense would claim that Acosta and Felix were trying to "save" the Yosts' 17-year-old daughter, Katlynn Goodwill, from her parents; at Acosta's trial, Katlynn testified that her stepfather, Christopher Yost, had molested her weekly from ages 7 to 15. she also claimed that Felix blackmailed her into having sex with him by threatening to expose the abuse to her mother. Joshua Acosta, who pulled the trigger on the three victims, was convicted in 2018 and sentenced to life in prison without parole. Frank Felix, who reportedly devised the plot, was convicted in November 2024 and sentenced to life in prison without parole in April 2025. no charges were filed against Katlynn.
