Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

I've listened to probably an hour of discussion on Western Kabuki and didn't even know about the pet stuff, or his lewks.

kat is delivering *exactly* the message those viewers need

Lol why the fuck was my anodyne quote removed?

Guessing it was a mass-severing.

This sucks.
I liked this.
I didn't use it to dogpile or antagonize anyone, it just provided some nice useful metrics for who I wanted to interact with.

Just like many like to say that tech is neutral in and of itself, tools can be deemed pro or anti social depending.

Quoted post was announcement of the shuttering of the Matty / singal / et al follower labeler.

This is better, but it's still so goddamn goofy trying to TikTok polish chuck.

I'd bet a thousand that either there were arguments in the editorial team that managed the cuts vs props and styling
Or
The same team spent an afternoon watching YouTube editing videos.

The government is shut down because Trump and the Republicans are hellbent on taking health care away from you.

And they won’t even come to the table to talk to us about it.

This is not about politics. It's about people.

Let’s break it down:

I think the more interesting framing is use of current events to support an ostensibly unrelated narrative.

Second to that is anger at that person for allowing this narrative to take up 1% of the zeitgeist.

Obviously all can be true.

Discrimination vs emergent outcome of a generally anodyne status quo are different.

But hmm.
botsnack.bsky.social
I'm on this tip but hell if I'd frame it as discrimination.

We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

It's weird to see repeated analysis of political shift framed only in interactions of ideology, over a spam of time where access to information has shifted so dramatically.
botsnack.bsky.social
I've always been too weird for the nerds, too nerd for the weirds.

Bluesky seems to suit me.

I have a decent mastodon, but it doesn't feed me enough brainrot to make the depressing news tolerable.

Maybe the right way to run a social media platform is to intentionally be antagonistic to your users. Set the bar at the floor.
botsnack.bsky.social
There's an answer to this, YMMV as to what you think of it.
There's a dialogue between these two paradigms, with emergent and implicit effects of each, on the protocol (XMPP fracture), on the community, etc.

And verification is structured so that federated servers can use upstream services, afaik

Mostly fires the "I don't want this crap foisted upon me six ways from Sunday" button for me.

Granting the implicit personhood or even a shard of it to a product, a massively funded commercial enterprise, is an ask that has to be earned.
botsnack.bsky.social
Private run immigrant detention facilities were a massive cash cow under the Biden admin.

And conditions were horrible.

I don't know how to apply qualifiers like "bad" vs "monstrous," but it was not good.

Hence the calls.
botsnack.bsky.social
Thing is..
Even if I grant the OP that we don't "understand" LLMs, granting personhood or even aspects of it to a creation of an individual is a wild presumption, that should rest on validity and not the unknown.

an unfortunate irony about this post - and even if you are the staunchest anti-ai critic out there, i think you'd agree - is that some of the most bigoted things are being said to respond to this. copy/pasting phrasing and terminology used by bigots but replacing "dna" with "bits" doesn't make it ok

i'm completely serious when i say that much of the dismissive ai discourse on here fires the bigotry neuron

if you're writing a sentence that sounds like eugenics but you go "oh that's fine to say because it's not a real person" (whatever that means) you may want to consider what made you okay with saying that
