Text from a prospect.org article: The year before a fulminating Nazi rally in a packed Madison Square Garden in New York, FDR warned that the global rise of fascism was the result of democratic governments doing the opposite of the New Deal and protecting an economic status quo enriching a tiny handful at the expense of everyone else. "Democracy has disappeared in several other great nations, not because the people of those nations disliked democracy, but because they had grown tired of unemployment and insecurity, of seeing their children hungry while they sat helpless in the face of government confusion and government weakness through lack of leadership," he said in a 1938 radio address. "Finally, in desperation, they chose to sacrifice liberty in the hope of getting something to eat."

I liked this.
I didn't use it to dogpile or antagonize anyone, it just provided some nice useful metrics for who I wanted to interact with.

Just like many like to say that tech is neutral in and of itself, tools can be deemed pro or anti social depending.

The Lie of the Self-Moderating Community This is the dream. Build it and they will come. They will not destroy it because it's theirs, it's the internet and it's super democratic, right? But why should this work online if it doesn't work offline? The alleged democratic nature of the online world is even more of a myth than it is in the offline world. Online, someone pays the website bills and has the passwords to the back end, someone registered the domain, someone makes money off of the site, someone has admin tools. Those people have more power than the other people in the community, including the power to decide to do nothing with those powers. The decisions they make set the tone of a community more than anything else, more than the user interface, more than the slick design, more than the user population itself.

I think the more interesting framing is use of current events to support an ostensibly unrelated narrative.

Second to that is anger at that person for allowing this narrative to take up 1% of the zeitgeist.

There's an answer to this, YMMV as to what you think of it.
There's a dialogue between these two paradigms, with emergent and implicit effects of each, on the protocol (XMPP fracture), on the community, etc.

And verification is structured so that federated servers can use upstream services, afaik

Even if I grant the OP that we don't "understand" LLMs, granting personhood or even aspects of it to a creation of an individual is a wild presumption, that should rest on validity and not the unknown.
