It should be obvious to those without malintent, but views here represent my own as a unique human and not those of my employers.

I will not back down.

Trump is now calling for the arrest of elected representatives checking his power.

What else is left on the path to full-blown authoritarianism?
Donald Trump Truth Social Post: Chicago Mayor should be in jail for failing to protect Ice Officers! Governor Pritzker also.

But of course, when those same officers shoot at civilians, it's all good apparently.

President Trump has called for the jailing of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, both Democrats, for “failing to protect” ICE officers who have been sent to the city.
Trump says Chicago mayor, Illinois governor should be jailed for response to ICE
Trump, without providing evidence, said Brandon Johnson and JB Pritzker should go to jail for “failing to protect” immigration agents.

Very cool to see the first one move through the editorial process. We'll get you more details soon, including the authorship details and all that. =)

It's a reason that the concept of a "content creator" grates on my brain. Content isn't inherently interesting but boy-howdy we create a lot of it.

This, right here, should be the mission statement for all of us in journalism education.

Being a podcaster costs $40 for a decent mic and $18 per month for hosting. The hard part is having something interesting to say. Get a degree in that!

The Vice President of the United States used his social media page to tell Joy Reid, a private citizen with no connection to the government, that she should express "gratitude" for how this country has treated her.

Black women remain the most consistent targets in all of this.

This morning, the Trump Administration’s Department of War gave me an ultimatum: call up your troops, or we will. It is absolutely outrageous and un-American to demand a Governor send military troops within our own borders and against our will.

The worst part about this? By no means is any of this an "extraordinary relationship" with the US government. They're describing the relationship du jour that most free and democratic nations have with their Unis.

And it's not a one-time capitulation. If DOJ ever says you violated the vague and unconstitutional terms, they will take back ALL federal funds from that year and you have to return ALL private funding from donors who want their gifts back from that year. It's a never-ending protection racket.

The Act of Capitulation that Trump is demanding that all colleges and universities are to sign surrenders authority over vast areas to Trump, as the Dear Leader. www.washingtonexaminer.com/wp-content/u...

Why is this important? We live in an increasingly hybrid society for which we traverse the physical and the digital nearly seamlessly. This work helps further cement the idea that those digital experiences aren't somehow "less real" or fake." Give it a peek?
bowmanspartan.bsky.social
There is a lot more work to be done, but the takeaway is quite clear: people can feel a sense of place for physical and digital worlds, and this sense of place can have both positive and negative valence to it.

Our latest finds that across so many conceptualizations, it really seems to come down to (a) egocentricity and (b) emotionality.

We've been working to refine the measurement devices, as scales in this area of research are ... not so clearly developed.

Lately, I've been wondering how much folks consider the matrix of "how much time does AI save me" crossed with "how much time suck does AI create for the people I give my content to"?
bowmanspartan.bsky.social
That ... is a good question. IIRC, the paradox is that until we publish, many of our various indices/numbers won't be registered. I'll follow up with you.

Radical ties get you suspended at #UNC Chapel Hill—unless they’re to the Confederacy, in which case they get you $2.5 million to build a shrine to a secessionist monument.

Odd trend: I'm noticing among colleagues (even some I've known for a long time) that their paragraphs and claims sometimes contain uncharacteristically ambiguous/vague/illogical claims when discussing research.

Can't shake the feeling that when smart folks outsource to AI, this is the result?

Whenever I see papers like these the lack of both hypotheses & tests are striking -- science happens in interesting ways when ppl who are genuinely interested do their best

That's the absolute back-up, of course. LOADS to eat in there, no question - and frankly, much of it is pretty damned good. But I think I'll wanna pop above-surface for a spell. =)

Trying to catch up with a book deadline, so just booked an intentionally long day on the Amtrak to get some writing done:

7am - 1pm: SYR to NYP
1pm - 3pm: lunch in Manhattan
3pm - 10pm: NYP to SYR

Next question: Where should I grab a Monday lunch in Midtown, y'all?

(trip in a few weeks)
