It sucks to have to cancel a subscription to your hometown paper, but I did that when they fired @karenattiah.bsky.social.

So I finally made a website with links/PDFs to much of my writing, media, and other stuff. Hoping soon to upload many of the primary sources from my self-determination book so others can use them as well. www.bradleyrsimpson.com

I used to do this in my US survey, but I would also ask “when is the West?”

The police in full view of the assembled cameras. They couldn’t very well beat little children trying to hit them with pillows on camera and so they slunk off, humiliated, and the standoff ended without violence. Nonviolence resistance can be a form of jujutsu - much more than passive resistance.

I once heard German Green politician and peace activist Petra Kelly talk about this, shortly before her death. She described a first nations protest in Canada, where hundreds of police and activists had a standoff that seemed destined for violence until scores of children with pillows “attacked” …

i’ve wondered whether the traditional tactic of peaceful resistance to shock the conscience of observers who see nonviolence met with force is still possible in a media environment where only novelty can get the attention of the people you need to be shocked, and portland seems to have an answer

Streets are still closed off in front of the Portland ICE facility at 8:30pm. Protesters have gathered on a side street. Dance party in progress.

To be clear, Noem is praying for God to bless the ICE, DHS, CBP goons tear gassing, arresting, brutalizing, and shooting pepper rounds at Christian clergy attempting to defend immigrants in their communities. Literal blasphemy made flesh.

Hey @npr.org you are no longer receiving federal funding, so you can use words that actually convey what is happening. Sending troops from other states to invade Oregon and Illinois and terrorize and brutalize their residents is not "bucking tradition." Have the courage to speak to the moment!

President Trump is bucking tradition and legal precedent in pushing to deploy the National Guard to Democratic-led cities like Portland, Oregon, and Chicago due to what he says is rampant crime and to support his crackdown on illegal immigration.

Come on now, they are taking the brave stand of performatively asking questions that they know Bondi will refuse to answer or will treat with contempt. what more could you possibly ask or expect from the elected representatives of the world's most powerful legislative body?

Ellison: “As part of our commitment to amplifying Voices from all corners of the spectrum, CBS News will have a new segment called ‘I did Nazi that coming,’ but, you know, unironically.”

BREAKING— David Ellison, CEO of Paramount Skydance, just sent out this email to Paramount employees re: The Free Press acquisition/Bari Weiss. Says she has passion for "rigorous, fact-based reporting & a relentless commitment to amplifying voices from all corners of the spectrum."

Text shared w me:
Dear Team Paramount:

I think we can all agree that the temperature of our nation's social discourse feels higher than ever. Too often, the space once reserved for thoughtful dialogue has been consumed by partisan division and hostile disputes. If we are to move forward, we must find our way back to the ideals that shaped both our country and civilization itself: open exchange of ideas, vigorous yet respectful debate, and a genuine regard for the beliefs and traditions of others.

This challenge extends to the media. While it was founded with the mission of informing the public and fostering discussion on the issues of the day, too often it has become a platform that amplifies the very partisanship tearing our society apart. George Washington warned that the primary danger in politics is partisanship. Today, that danger extends far beyond politics - threatening the fabric of our communities. When we reduce every issue to "us vs. them" or "my way vs. the wrong way," we close ourselves off from listening, learning, and ultimately growing, both as individuals and as a society.

I don't pretend to have a solution to this challenge. But I do believe we each have a responsibility to do our part. At Paramount, we have both a unique opportunity and an obligation as stewards of one of the most iconic and respected news organizations in the world. We are challenging ourselves to do better - recognizing that we have the ability to reach a broad audience and demonstrate constructive, respectful, and bipartisan dialogue in our own work.
Our mission is clear: to ensure that this global platform remains a place where people can seek the truth, gain understanding, and engage with the facts. That is our purpose.

With this in mind, I am excited to share that The Free Press is joining our Company. Since its launch just five years ago, The Free Press, under cofounder Bari Weiss' leadership,

One of the most mediocre, bad faith writers in all of modern media. Can’t really call her a journalist, and she has no business editing CBS news, except as an ideological enforcer to make sure that they don’t accidentally badmouth billionaires or talk about Palestinians as human beings.

As a Northwestern alumni who got his PhD there, this is a despicable, embarrassing, and cowardly abandonment of its educational mission and obligations to its students.

Many NU websites have been updated to fall in line with the Trump administration’s orders and have erased resources, history and information that were once easily accessible to students, faculty and staff.

If you are a supporter and reader of @contingent-mag.bsky.social one of the biggest things you can do to help us at the moment is get this CFP to the NTT folks in your life. The fracturing of social media has made it very difficult to get the word out esp. to adjuncts and VAPs.

The monster has been here all along. It is a historical constant that manifests in wildly different ways across time, place, and culture. Whatever form it takes, the monster claws at categories; it un...

Exactly. But Nichols has no understanding of social movements or anything like that. He’s a military security guy.

It looks pretty good to me. Esp like the one on the bottom left that looks like a little steak. But at this rate, maybe you’ll have a second career when the academy truly implodes. Can you imagine getting sent around the world to do that?
bradleyrsimpson.bsky.social
For anyone who actually studies the history of authoritarianism, including fascism, in other parts of the world this is laughably, historically illiterate. In Nichols mind, no one can express opposition to such regimes. If that’s the case, then why don’t they last forever? just incredibly dumb

If we were living under fascism, none of you would be here daring to post things. You'd be erasing your social media accounts and keeping your head down; you'd know that peacocking your faux-bravery on a network would expose you to being disappeared.
You have no idea what "fascism" really means.

Pritzker is doing more than most governors, but at any moment he and Chicago mayor could simply stop cooperating with ICE and other agencies conducting illegal activities, or arrest them. The Chicago police are working with ICE and DHS, even though they are literally getting teargassed by them!

My message to Kristi Noem is clear: Get out of Chicago.

To be fair, the ADL long ago ceased to give a shit about actually existing antisemitism in favor of criminalizing acknowledgment of the existence, humanity, and human rights of Palestinians. But hopefully people who still actually support free speech will take note.
