Hello!!! I am a writer and artist making comics who loves monsters and FromSoft games, best known for my GARLIC duology, which was followed by a standalone fantasy THE FIRELIGHT APPRENTICE

Currently working on my 4th graphic novel DEAREST MINA: a YA adaptation of DRACULA told from Mina's POV 🌿✨
Hardcover copies of Garlic & the Vampire and Garlic & the Witch are nestled between fake flowers and mushrooms A woman in a Edwardian lawn gown sits near a cliff in a forest with her picnic blanket and basket is approached by a large feathered lizard beast in fanciful garb emerging out of the trees, fiddling with their hands as they ask, "Mind if I sit?" digital illustration of the moon presence standing in a flower field, back dropped by the blood moon. She tilts her head as she plucks petal from a lumenflower in her other hand hand holds up a copy of The Firelight Apprentice featuring two sisters standing before a city and spooky skull cloud

This is extremely accurate, and it's why I wish editors got a credit on books. Sometimes you learn who edited a bunch of your favorite books and you're like ah. I see. It's a job that requires a keen literary eye AND people skills, which is a tough mix!

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

books seem to be the only medium that gets to really push it, but it still can be very hit or miss
breebird33.bsky.social
oh yeah, those slow suspenseful stretches were really good
breebird33.bsky.social
this is more me being relieved 😅 I enjoyed it!
breebird33.bsky.social
I enjoyed it tho! glad I finally watched it, now to watch other films I've been afraid to watch in case they may make me faint
breebird33.bsky.social
finally watched Hereditary...it was not as intense as I was led to believe...

Incredible.

Jack Posobiec references the earliest version of antifa -- the anti-fascists in the Weimar Republic who were opposed to the Nazi Party -- as the bad guys.

Exactly!!! The Cenobites are rooted in BDSM so they go after people who choose to solve the box, delivering pain AND pleasure onto them. That is why Kirsty is given a chance to find Frank, because she solved the puzzle while ignorant to what it was, making her consent dubious.
breebird33.bsky.social
yeah Cenobites being an active force instead of a Frank analogous is weird
breebird33.bsky.social
idk as a horror, it's fine, but the thing about the Cenobites is the simplicity of their rules, and their neutrality toward those who solve the puzzle box, is what makes them so appealing as horror entities.

to add: it speaks also to how the aesthetics of fascism are always stolen or appropriated. the swastika is from euroasian religions like hinduism or buddhism. the fedora was originally women's fashion. gAI being popular among fascists makes sense when its entire function is to steal aesthetics
artofchira.bsky.social
idk if it's overly reductive but I'm convinced fascism is born out of creative envy. every far right character is a failed or obsolete writer/comedian/actor/artist/etc

which is so annoying since these are losers who made their rainbow drawing not being good enough for the fridge society's problem
