Remember cloud pictures taken from planes, back when flying was novel? These were taken on a flight from Calafate to Ushuaia, when the gray clouds cleared right before take-off. #photography #clouds

Although theycalled it a cabin, it was really quite a nice house if the picture outside is anything to go by. Proper starched curtains at the windows and everything.

We also stopped at an inn on the way to El Chalten with some Butch and Sundance history. Although it's still disputed if Butch was actually killed in the shoot-out. His sister in America claims he visited her after his reported death. So who knows what really happened?
Sign in an inn along route 40 in Argentina: On February 1905, after robbing the bank of London and Tarapaca in Gallegos, Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid and Ethal Place were hidden here for almost one month before leaving to Chili. Five years later, during an epic shooting with police forces, Butch and Sundance were killed in Bolivia.

The Argentinian adventure continues. A really cool place we visited near Cholila was the cabin where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid lived for a couple of years (and Etta Place, the Kid's moll). Ironically, there's now a police station just down the road.
An old wooden, weathered cabin stands behind a post and wire fence. On the left is a blue sign explaing the history of the cabin (home to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid). The cabin is surrounded by trees and there are gray clouds above. A wonky wooden ladder leans up against a split rail fence, remnants of a corral at the cabin. It's now full of Lupins rather than livestock. Animal skulls, bleached white, are hammered into a tree. The top half of the trunk is orange colored (fungi?) and the bark has grown over some parts of the skulls. A carved wooden sign by the cabin reading: no rayar las cabanas, and underneath the name Butch Cassidy. I'm no Spanish speaker, but the internet tells me it says 'do not scrarch the cabin'. If that's wrong, please let me know!

Something different from the mountains and flowers of Argentina I've been posting. These little roadside shrines pop up all along the roads, and honor folk saint Gauchito Gil. People leave offerings of cigarettes, alcohol, red ribbons, and flags bearing his likeness. More info in alt text.

To the left of the larger shrine was this small smaller, triangular one, again containing a statue of Gil and some offerings. Truck drivers helped spread the cult by building these shrines along the roadside. Gil is viewed by some as a bit of a Robin Hood figure, and a protector of the poor and downtrodden.

The lupines grow wild here in Argentina, and line the roads. They do make a nice foreground for photos!

Near our hotel in Buenos Aires was a Russian Orthodox church, and a few steps away was this mural. Unfortunately no picture of the church as it was night. Bravo to the painter.

The closest I'll get to a Thanksgiving meal this year. Not that I'm complaining! Happy Thanksgiving to all my friend who celebrate, from a Buenos Aires market. (Confession: I don't eat meat except for turkey on Thanksgiving day, so I'll just stick to the veggies!)
