As I’ve said for years, actual payola was infinitely better than the fake payola streaming services have setup under the table, the mob had the honesty and good will to look you in the eyes and say “this is a criminal operation”.
Listen to me, everything was better for the consumer and the labor force when organized crime ran things as opposed to private equity and venture capital, because the mob knew when to stop stealing.

Mark Fisher truly had the tools for living a life with any sort of decency in the 21st century. I've been amazed going back and re-reading K-Punk articles and realizing how prescient some of his words are – and in ways I would have never expected.
