The bicycle, the bicycle surely, should always be the vehicle of architects. It is the city hack that opens the door to great ideas.

If your stainless sink is rusting it’s likely due to an incompatible cleaning products or contamination from objects containing carbon steel.

I’d like a third choice of panoramic vista car.

In my city they littered streets because haters kicked them over and threw them into the streets.

I saw a delivery robot face off with some scooters parked on the sidewalk in Hollywood.
The solution is wider sidewalks and in-street parking corrals for bikes and scooters

There are weird colors in this finish like it was somehow reacting with the original plaster. I don’t have the science down enough to understand why, but I feel like it’s just cosmetic at this point.

Struggled with the finishing as it set up faster than expected. Some light filling later will be all I can do.

Bonding coat on. Will be applying the finish coat in a bit.

If I fall over because of one of these robots I'm taking the food as compensation.

Hostile architecture has a definition that is all about intention, unlike fine art. Intent matters because you’re accusing the designer of being antisocial.

Talk about its effect then. What does “Something like this” do that is targeting a group or preventing specific behavior in public?
November 28, 2025 at 4:57 AM
“Looks like a bench you can’t sit on” doesn’t mean it’s hostile architecture. It was never a bench because it was designed to be a bike rack. It’s obvious when you look at it closely which the internet doesn’t do.

How is this bike rack hostile besides challenging your expectations?
November 28, 2025 at 4:17 AM
My issue isn’t with hostile architecture as a concept but with the work of a local designer getting pilloried in a way that is unfair. The business assoc. commissioned a local designer to make something and may not ever do that again. I would say due to unfair criticism.

You posted the definition so take another stab at explaining how this bike rack is targeting or negatively influencing the behavior of people in public space.
November 28, 2025 at 3:59 AM
It’s a bike rack, not a Julian Opie. Here’s a concept photo from FB. You can see the intent is a long bike rack with some seating attached at the end. What they installed was a smaller version.

I didn’t say it’s perfect, I said it’s fine and I didn’t have a problem locking my bike to it. You can dislike it as a design object but that doesn’t make it hostile.
