I have worked on mobile apps in the past - there's a technical problem here...
As phone tech progresses, the app may need updating to support newer devices, which have features/services that older phones won't have.
As such, the app's code (and tests) get more complex to cater for all variations.

It annoys me when I have to buy a new phone not because it's dead, but because it can't update anymore. It's a perfectly good phone, otherwise.
