Neither am I.
But I do think we need to give serious consideration the possibility, and to how we're going to respond.
We certainly won't have PR before then.
As the polls stand now, the Lib Dems and Greens would have to team up, with help from Labour, to prevent a Tory-Reform coalition government.

Okay, all that seems reasonable.

No, he's just finished a long shift...
brexitpirates.bsky.social
That looks rather optimistic.
Why would core Tory/Labour people vote differently? I can see some Labour voters giving Green or Lib Dem a chance, but would core Tory voters really switch to anyone but Reform? Would Reform voters from last time round vote differently?

The kind of pubs I end up in, you can get half an hour of special services with the bar tender for that.
And the glass of wine.

I think FPTP by its nature hampers small parties, while any kind of PR will help them.
The question is, when do Reform stop being a "small party".
brexitpirates.bsky.social
We do need electoral reform, especially with regard to replacing FPTP with PR of some form.
However, we have to accept that while this will give the Greens, etc., a more representative platform, it will also certainly (in the short term at least) lead to more Reform UK MPs in parliament.

There is no time to lose...
To stop this horrible outlook for the next wlections we need reform of the electoral system to better represent our society.
In the end, the Reform Party is only for thugs, millionaires and racists.

I do like a good drink (and I mean good - there's nothing like a decent wine, single malt or proper beer). Don't like cannabis because I don't like the smell of it.
And I think in fact that beer and bread have more or less the same standing in human history (though both have changed a lot).

Tories will abolish stamp duty to “revive the housing market”

First time buyers don’t pay it anyway (up to £300k) & the fact the average UK house price is 10x the average salary is the problem, not £5k stamp duty on a £300k house! And then there’s the £24bn lost tax revenue…

Totally deluded 🤦‍♀️

I was quite surprised, given the amount of negative press that would have you believe that this government is the worst we’ve had yet.

I’ll put the link in the next post but given we had a complete shit show with the Tories, this is astonishing. Do reshare or bookmark the link, it’s handy.
Under the last Tory Govt, elected in 2019, of 42 Manifesto Pledges, only
2 were delivered in 5 years.
Under the current Labour Govt, elected in 2024, of 83 Manifesto Pledges, 57 are delivered (18), on track (19), or in process (20).
In 1 year.

Studying the language and literature that has helped to define our nation at home and around the world for centuries is a "rip-off" apparently
brexitpirates.bsky.social
Additionally, it's worrying that it takes someone like Heseltine to educate Badenoch and Starmer on how to defeat Reform.
You don't ape their language and policies - you impress upon people that the very foundation of Reform's existence is bullshit.
brexitpirates.bsky.social
Starmer should be pushing this at every opportunity, not leaving it to a Tory grandee.

Lord Heseltine, "The number of people aged below 50 who think it was right for us to leave the European Union, is less than 20%

"The latest polls tells us 56% now believe it was mistake to leave the European Union"

Hands up if you are one of the 56% 🙋‍♂️

I think we have to be careful about reading much into "coming second" while we still use FPTP.
There are no second prizes, though of course it could indicate a willingness among voters in some consituencies to change their vote in the next election.

"Very awful", Donald.
Everything you are doing is very awful.
But probably not as awful as those things you did to those children on Epstein's island.

Trump: Everything we're doing is very lawful and what they're doing is not lawful.

And what the governor and mayor, as an example, you can say of Portland and certainly of Chicago, it's not lawful what they're doing. They have to be very careful.
