The ECHR is our shield from exploitation. This protects us not just from the wealthy but a government that might seek to impose authoritarian rule, which is why Reform and the Tories fight to have it removed.

When the Tories were last in office - according to international Human Rights Watch - UK was on course to make list of countries that abuse rather than protect human rights. Is it any wonder they want us to join Russia & Belarus as only European countries outside the ECHR

Analysis of these 7 regimes reveals 14 common threads that link them in recognizable patterns of national behavior and abuse of power
1. Powerful and continuing expressions of nationalism.
From the prominent displays of flags and bunting to the ubiquitous lapel pins, the fervor to show patriotic nationalism, both on the part of the regime itself and of citizens caught up in its frenzy, was always obvious. Catchy slogans, pride in the military, and demands for unity were common themes in expressing this nationalism.
It was usually coupled with a suspicion of things foreign that often bordered on xenophobia.

3. Identification of enemies/scape-goats as a unifying cause. The most significant common thread among these regimes was the use of scapegoating as a means to divert the people's attention from other problems, to shift blame for failures, and to channel frustration in controlled directions. The methods of choice-relentless propaganda ando disinformation-were usually effective. Often the regimes would incite "spontaneous" acts against the target scapegoats, usually communists, socialists, liberals, Jews, ethnic and racial minorities, traditional national enemies, members of other religions, secularists, homosexuals, and "terrorists." Apart from that fact it won’t work, it’s pathetic to watch this insincere, hollow posturing.

About 75% of Chris Philp's conference speech so far - and we are 10 minutes in – has been about crimes committed by migrants. You'd think that's all they ever did, rather than work in hospitals, care homes, merchant banks etc etc etc.
