First dive with my new Olympus OM-1 and of 2026! Nice surface conditions, freezing cold crystal clear water, and some good macro critters made for a nice dive!

A barnacle extends into the water column to grab some passing food A tiny frilled anemone perched on a mussel on the seabed. Both animals get their food from the water column. The anemone uses sticky tentacles to catch things as they pass by and the mussel sucks in water and filters out the food before expelling the water. A scallop on the seabed siphoning its supper. The black dots are elementary eyes that help them detect predators. A small Acadian hermit crab under a tunicate encrusted in another species of tunicate.

Ice lily pads on Lake Cochituate! These shapes are formed when water freezes on top of a body of water with waves to break the ice into chunks as it forms. The edges are caused by the chunks bumping up against one another. Really cool!

We surfaced on a shore dive at Old Garden Beach to check our location only to come face to face with this crew of double-crested cormorants. I can only assume they were mocking my navigation skills.

Taken at Pebble Beach in Rockport, MA. It was remarkably empty - we saw moon snails and crabs, but only a couple fish and shrimp. The only real interesting find was a tiny lumpfish right near the end of the dive.

Had a lovely dive at Folly Cove in Gloucester, Massachusetts this morning. We finally got a break with air temperatures in the 40s and bright sunshine. The visibility was amazing and the nudibranchs were out!

Palio dubia nudibranch and a bonus tiny brown acoelomorph flatworm in front. I found a single Coryphella verrucosa The shallows were so pretty as we were swimming in. I didn't get this shot quite right without a wide angle lens, but I did capture the sun beams. Most of the Palio dubia we see are lighter in color, but the body of this one was dark.

Took my new OM-1 out for a stroll to find some nature subjects. Nothing spectacular for photos, but I did find evidence of beaver activity and their lodge. The residents were nowhere to be seen, but I'll be checking back to see if I can spot them.

A beaver lodge on the bank of the lake. As you can see, this little patch of woods is not in a particularly wild area, but the beaver(s) still call it home. This tree was pretty thick and the chomp marks were quite fresh One tree felled by chewing and another in progress (or possibly just a favorite chewing spot - I'll report back) Nice clean teeth marks on this tree
