Well thank goodness a Republican governor has the courage to speak the obvious truth: it’s wrong for the President to send national guard troops to a state to retaliate against his political opponents. If only other GOP Guvs had similar backbone.

Republican Governor of Oklahoma Kevin Stitt condemns the deployment of Texas's National Guard to Illinois.

“Oklahomans would lose their mind if [Gov. JB] Pritzker in Illinois sent troops down to Oklahoma during the Biden administration,” Stitt told The New York Times in an interview.

If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality. -Desmond Tutu

We’re in a moment now where it would be worth people taking three hours to watch Gandhi, particularly the scene of the salt march. There is value to making the brutality of your opponent so plain as day that no one can argue with it. The clarity of that brought down an empire

Leavitt: "Democrats should know that they put the White House and the president in this position. And if they don't want further harm on their constituents back home, then they need to reopen the government. It's very simple."

Appreciate your honesty, @utahgop.bsky.social, surprising as it
is, about putting in writing that Republicans are begging for the most rigged and the least competitive map. Embarrassing.

Jen and I are keeping Grand Blanc in our hearts today. Churches must always be places of safety and strength — an attack harming one community of faith is an attack on us all. California stands with Michigan and the Latter-day Saints community.

looking for opportunities to serve others, and acting for the common good. I’ll miss his warm smile, his genuine concern for others, his effective mix of humor and directness in his addresses. The world has truly lost a spiritual giant.

I loved how President Nelson spoke consistently and eloquently about how we can move forward for the better not just individually, but as communities, a state, and a country. He consistently advocated for being peacemakers, caring for the less fortunate,

Man, I will miss Russell Nelson. When he was called as an apostle in 1984, I distinctly recall how impressed I was with his background. How wonderful and appropriate it was that this man who had saved so many lives as a heart surgeon would be working to save lives spiritually.

It’s a municipal election year! Local elections might not be as flashy as national politics, but it’s vitally important. Pay attention to the issues that you care about, research your local candidates, and vote for forward-thinking local leadership!

Full bore authoritarian.

Extraordinarily corrupt. I watched FCC chair Brendan Carr's full interview on Hannity. Carr basically said straight out that coverage of Trump he deems overly hostile can be decreed contrary to the "public interest," and thus grounds for yanking licenses:

238 years ago, the United States Constitution was signed in Philadelphia. Today, it is under attack by self-serving, corrupt politicians. While elected Republicans aid and abet this assault, Democrats are fighting every day for Utahns’ constitutional rights, and against Trump’s authoritarianism.

BREAKING: The Utah Supreme Court once again rejected the Legislature’s desperate attempt to drag its feet on redistricting, denying the supermajority’s request for a stay of the Third District Court ruling. That means the timeline for new congressional maps stays in place.
BREAKING NEWS: Utah Supreme Court Denies Legislature’s Request for Stay in Redistricting Case

“Today’s ruling is yet another rebuke of the Utah Legislature’s blatant disregard for the will of the people. The courts have made it clear: Republican politicians don’t get to stall, delay, or rig the process to protect their own power. Fair maps are coming, and they will be in place by November 10th.

This is a victory for Utahns who demanded change when they passed Proposition 4, and a defeat for politicians who think they can silence voters with gerrymandered maps. For too long, Republican lawmakers have chosen their voters instead of the other way around. That ends now, and we’re ready to hit the ground running once these maps are in place.”

We are grateful to Chair King for offering the closing prayer at today’s vigil. In moments of tragedy, it’s powerful to see people come together across party lines. Violence has no place in our politics, and we remain committed to building a future rooted in respect, peace, and care for one another.

“I join Utahns across the state in praying for the safety of Charlie Kirk and all of those in attendance at the event. Free speech is the bedrock of our democracy, and violence has absolutely no place in our politics.”

Please, @Schumer.senate.gov, @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social, and @kenmartin.bsky.social, read this and think our situation through carefully. Perhaps the time has come to stop enabling Trump destroying our Constitution. Shutting down the government may be what is necessary given Trump’s behavior.
