What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

This was the best possible way to discover that “scheme“ has a very different context in Ireland than it does in the US.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

Oh my god, PJ. It’s awesome. You owe it to yourself to track ‘em all down. JLGL is JLGL, of course, but it also features some of Bob Lappan’s best ever lettering work.

I don’t necessarily dislike “Spooky Season,“ but it feels like I missed a vote a few years back to decide that everybody was gonna start calling October that.

"John Keating stands on top of his desk to get their attention. 'Why do I stand up here?' he asks. When one student starts typing 'Why would a teacher stand on a desk in the middle of class?' into ChatGPT, Keating quits his teaching job and moves to a sheep farm in New Zealand."

I think what my wife and I have most in common with other couples are our text conversations about Nik Kershaw and Chesney Hawkes.
After seeing Three Dog Night at a charity event, I discovered that the lead singer fronted the band behind the cover of Nik Kershaw‘s “wouldn’t it be good“ on the pretty in pink soundtrack and sent that to my wife and then discovered Nik Kershaw wrote “the one and only“ for Chesney Hawkes for the 1991 film Doc Hollywood; when my wife and I met in 1995, Chesney Hawkes’s full length album was one of the few CDs she owned, and in this exchange, I shared this information with her and she accidentally referred to him as “Cheney“ and I made a joke about Chesney Hawkes also shooting a friend in the face.

DC’s cover/masthead design is exquisite craftsmanship across the board while Marvel’s looks like they hired a middle schooler with the free version of Canva.

When I was asked to play the Apokolips comedy festival I wasn't sure. But then I found out the only rules were that I couldn't make jokes about Darkseid or the anti-life equation, so I decided to go. And I found out at that the parademons are just like us in many ways.
