The same forces pressing down on the culture that I and people like me would like to see thrive, have been strongly present and quite recently, in different guises.

Which is to say, culture doesn’t ever die but it can be cyclical and reactive as well as creative.

Listening to Steve Coogan, interviewed by Louis Theroux.

Sort of comforted in a strange way as they’re referencing comedians like Les Dawson and Bernard Manning and I’m reminded that comedy born from the “alternative” scene of the 80s and 90s was largely a reaction to that old crowd.

Besides which, looking further afield is no guarantee of a job and the government knows that.

You can’t have your unemployment for economic gain and eat the unemployed, too… or something.

People suggesting unemployed youth just up sticks and go where the work is don’t understand how important it can be for some kids to stay in their communities and near their friends and families.

Some governments, naming no governments, need to remember they work for us.

I’m happy for you that you have a fresh supply and the ability to access it. 👍

I’m equally happy I don’t notice a real difference in soups, stews, curries, ragù, etc. because it means I can still cook those things myself sometimes, even if I no longer have the dexterity to peel and chop garlic. 😎
