Modern criminal cases involve tons of digital evidence. Far too many defense attorneys just don’t have the resources to keep up with it all.

CA needs to invest in public defense so that these attorneys have the investigative staff they need and their clients get the defense that they deserve.

In the last 20 or so minutes I’ve seen LAPD officers shove women to the ground without provocation, rip a sign out of a man’s hand and then swing a baton into his leg and raise a less-lethal launcher to aim
directly at a protester (which I’m 99% is a major policy violation.)

This guy is in one of the worst prisons in the world with no way out and may spend the rest of his life there because, it appears, he has an autism awareness tattoo in honor of his little brother.

California’s public defense system is in crisis. “Flat-fee” contracts are a big reason why. A new report sheds light on how these agreements privatize indigent defense and lead to worse representation and higher incarceration around the state.

From a source: “Just had a co-presenter for a buildings research conference bow out. She’s a dual citizen and the FBI came knocking to ask her about her involvement in coauthoring chunks of the Paris Agreement.

Climate science is being literally (and I mean literally) criminalized.”

Today is the 62nd anniversary of Gideon v. Wainwright guaranteeing the right-to-counsel. That right is elusive in many places. Lawyers have high caseloads and are underfunded. Its a crisis, and legislators continue criminalizing more actions and people. Fund public defense. #Gideonday

Check out this podcast with our amazing Nikki Baszynski talking about how jails restrict the right to counsel with their visitation rules
Today, I spoke once again w/Nikki Baszyski of the Wren Collective. This time, we discussed how the Cuyahoga County Jail is keeping incarcerated people from seeing their loved ones and recording their conversations.

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

Installing E.V. Chargers is Finally Paying Off for Retailers
Companies see charging as a potentially profitable business in and of itself, not just as a spur for foot traffic and sales.

Flawed Climate Report Puts Groups’ Interests First
