Maybe we can consider that if a given problem has a lot of good quality data, the data-hungry AI-based solution is not really that insightful— though probably still practical for engineering purposes.

It is curious to see amazing papers that are going out now 1) ride the AI-trend, 2) use very simple ML techniques that existed 50 years ago, and 3) get amazing results.
My take: many problems are still interesting because there is not enough data, preventing the trendy data-hungry techniques.

in case you are wondering why I still use Word, the answer is that not everybody is aware of how infuriating is MS Word.
brunocuevaszuviria.bsky.social
2025. Lots of AI and whatever, but Word keeps getting stuck on a 25 pages/8000 words manuscript.

E-motos have no place in our active infrastructure. Their operators are causing problems and bringing unjustified anger and regulation into the regular ebike movement and industry.

and this is simple standard Python. This is the second time I give it a chance, and it seems is going to be the second time I disable it.

What is the point of replacing auto-completions that are based on the variable / class definition (e.g. class methods) by hallucinations? Doesn't it defeat the purpose of auto-completion? The copilot just made up a "pandas.DataFrame.to_yaml" that I don't see anywhere in the documentation.

To me, this liquid glass design is a failure. It might look pretty to someone, but it makes everything extremely cluttered, and I am not 100% confident about this, but I can imagine that it has an impact on performance—now you need to overlay different layers, compute blurring effects, and so on.

Ok, is it me or the new MacOS update looks awful? It gives me the feeling that things are too rounded, wasting a lot of space for nothing.

A todos los conductores que dicen que las bicis entorpecen el tráfico, les invito a pillar el bicimad e ir de Imperial a Ciudad Universitaria de mañanita. A ver quién entorpece a quien.

(it's weird for us, but normal for late capitalism)
A cartoon of a man surrounded by robots says, If I had a nickel for every time the world's richest man bought the world's most important social media site, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice.

A veces se me olvida que las redes sociales son lugares donde se interactúa (en teoría) con otros seres humanos. Puse un comentario en una noticia y ahora no paro de recibir, para mi sorpresa, notificaciones de lo que opinan de mi comentario.

The definition of AI is becoming extremely blurry. At this point, anything done with a computer will be labelled as AI by the authors, even if they are running a linear regression.
brunocuevaszuviria.bsky.social
This one is funny. I'm pretty sure that people were doing this much before whatever we call AI right now was a thing. It seems that both reviewers and authors don't see a problem here.

When you write a review about the application of AI to a specific field, it is important to not look like if you were a cultist. I'm reading one that almost makes you think they are talking about the arrival of the mesiah.
