its insane that “i am racist” is just something you can say on any platform and none of the platforms do anything about it/actively defend them

It's beyond embarrassing that reviews like this continue to be moderated and allowed by Valve and I honestly don't know what we can do about it.
Steam being festered with fucking nazi losers is the one big sore point that I wish they would take action on, but they don't see them as an issue.

Let it never be forgotten that at the peak of Gamergate unpleasantness, Running With Scissors decided that what their game needed as a Milo Yianopolous cameo and a mission where you kill Tim Schafer.

And then they chastise other people for being 'too political'.

Valve claim this is an absolute line. A key company policy. And immutable fact of the storefront.

Award-winning indie darling Immortality has full-frontal nudity, sex and violence. Fully explicit, while Vile was just implication.

That's not a good way to run a business, I reckon.

Steam are notoriously inconsistent and have been for years. For every game they block claiming one reason that's supposedly a hard line in the sand, they handwave five that drove a monster-truck over that same line.

Case, Vile: Exhumed. Banned for having real photography with *implied* nudity.

Yeah you can tell the publisher made them have this one cuz it lacks so much sauce. All the other cover arts they ever made are much more representative.

As a sidenote I am excited, but I think the gun looks really weak compared to the original footage back in 2013.

It'd be funny if in the potential of a dive mechanic, that diving against an enemy with this will knock them over.

Oh dear, this is already bringing out the 'You shouldn't defend this game, it's icky art that makes me uncomfortable' crowd.

I've no time for them. After the (still ongoing) payment processor censorship mess, I'm pretty sure I'm in the 'unless it's actively illegal, let art be unsettling' camp.

Specifically, Valve hate making effort that isn't fun and part of their team's shared obsessions. Half-Life Alyx - their only AAA game in the past decade - launched without basic Steam Workshop tagging. Something all their other games had.

It took OVER TWO YEARS for someone to fix this. An easy job

I honestly don't think that Valve will back down even in the face of negative press across the industry, because that will require them to actually address issues. That will require meetings, and discussions, and maybe publishing their content policies where anyone can see them.

Valve hate effort.

Aah, I know I shouldn't be surprised, but I'm already seeing the Horses/Steam issue turn into a culture-war flashpoint.

Seeing talking points form now and being parroted by the worst people online, that IGN is a nest of pedophiles trying to force perversion onto innocent gamers with Horses.

Fun.

As Valve will never admit wrongdoing or their own cartoonish, well-documented inconsistency (because they'd have to re-review SO much and nobody at the company wants to do that), the only option left is to ensure Santa Ragione doesn't go bust. Which means buying games somewhere other than Steam.

Called it. Even if their rules make no sense and the game now adheres to them perfectly, Valve will not budge on this.

Apparently these rules are 100% set in stone and immutable. Which is why Vile, a game with photos and no nudity *is* blocked, while Immortality - full FMV sex scenes - is alllowed
UPDATE: Valve responds, saying the decision not to ship Horses on Steam is "final"
