a few years ago i sincerely believed it to be the duty of artists to take these tools and show the world how to use them humanely and respectfully. i don’t believe that any more. every time i have tried i have left the experience frustrated and angry…

Where I work doesn't re-enact the War itself, only the Tea Party. And as far as that goes, our Black historical interpreters represent free black citizens from Massachusetts colony.

I've been a Revolutionary War "historical re-enactor" as one of the Sons of Liberty. I keep hoping for a few key events to turn out differently and I wake up with the Union Jack flying over the Massachusetts State House - and Massachusetts is closer to that. than most of the USA right now.

My bad. I wasn't being clear. It's changed, just incrementally. In the face of the GOP tidal wave towards Autocracy, it feels stagnant, even like we've lost ground.

I know it doesn't feel like it, but the Congressional Progressive Caucus is larger now than it's ever been, reflecting a broader progressive trend in Democratic politics. The issue is, that progressive trend has not matched the mudslide of the GOP towards, frankly, Fascism & enablers.

I don't know if I agree that the problem is that Democrats have become more moderate. The party makeup seems fairly consistent with what its generally been - 60-70% moderates, 5+% conservative, 15+% progressives. It's that the GOP has changed radically to 65+% HARD right, 30+% cowardly other.

When the wealthy do not need the services of the government, they are more than happy to shut down, downsize, and render ineffective the services that they do not require. This furthers their belief in their self sufficiency and seeks to wrest citizens into thankful serfs, prostrating for crumbs.

This is horrifying. Another call to remove oversight and protections. Can't imagine why the GOP (and Hegseth in particular) would want to make it harder for racists and misogynists to be held to account and punished...
