Deeply thoughtful tribute to Canada’s John Piper. A remarkable under appreciated organizer for social justice and international solidarity. Bob Rae’s words capture the spirit of Piper’s life.

"Every pillar of what, I think, a lot of Canadians are attached to as the most decent, valuable parts of our society are things that, from the get-go, have been in the crosshairs of Poilievre: public education, Medicare, pensions."

Mass homelessness did not exist in Canada when I was growing up. Someone tell the kids it ain't normal.

It was created by successive austerity governments. We can reverse those policy directions and end mass homelessness.
Screenshot image stating:

1984

According to the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness, mass homelessness in Canada emerged around this time as a result of government cutbacks to social housing and related programs starting in 1984. In 1993, federal spending on the construction of new social housing came to an end.

This is the first time a Canadian Prime Minister has uttered these words. Hold him to it!

We've been bamboozled on this file by the liberals in the past, but this is a far cry from Trudeau's claim that housing is not a federal responsibility.

"We will immediately develop homelessness reduction targets with every province and territory to inform housing-first investments, improve access to treatment and end encampments community by community," the Carney campaign said in a statement."

I had wondered about our relationship to the British crown for some time. But I am now grateful to be politically linked to the crown given the boorish disrespectful behaviour of the US President.

My thanks to His Majesty King Charles III for his warm welcome and gracious hospitality today. Canada is fortunate to have a steadfast defender in our sovereign.

I was grateful to have been welcomed for a visit in Paris this morning.

Donald Trump has extreme designs on Canada. He also has a playbook: Trigger a crisis with ultimatums too vague to be met, negotiate with conditions that would be crippling, then “settle” for the actual goals: fresh water, minerals, manufacturing jobs.
