It’s a good thing Texas installed so much reliable solar, wind, and battery capacity to shoulder the load in the event the state’s unreliable coal generation suffered a catastrophic failure.

Because apparently it did.

It's been a privilege working with some of the world's best journalists at my hometown paper. Thank you to everyone who's read and supported my work.

I'm not done telling climate stories. More news to come.

The just-released IEA's Renewables 2025 report forecasts capacity will nearly double by 2030, but miss the COP28 target. Solar PV dominates growth (80%), with China leading the build-out. The USA forecast was cut significantly due to policy changes.

ICYMI: The process that sets your energy bills is supposed to play out in public. In practice, watchdogs say, the key decisions are made in closed-door negotiations where utilities set the agenda.

Here’s what NYS senators heard last week about the secretive “settlement” talks:

The $7,500 EV tax incentives expire today. If you’ve have been waiting for a sign to buy or lease, this is it. 🚙

I caved to the pressure of these expiring tax credits last month. I picked up a Kia EV9 electric SUV from a M.D. dealership for a smoking deal on a lease — and never looked back!

UCS’s new analysis reveals how millions of people across seven states are footing the bill for an additional $4.3 billion in electricity infrastructure projects approved in 2024 solely to connect wealthy private companies’ data centers.

Quote by UCS's Senior Energy Analyst Mike Jacob: “People deserve to understand the full extent of how data centers in their communities may affect their lives and wallets. This is a clear case of the public unknowingly subsidizing private companies’ profits.”

Wait, if coal is so cheap and clean, why does it need $625 million in subsidies and the repeal of clean air rules? Fact: Wind and solar generated more electricity than coal in the U.S. in 2024. Wind and solar will keep growing and coal will continue to decline. Trump may slow, but won't stop this.
